Engineering projects

Wayne State University, Detroit, MI 48201.

Graduate Research Project (Advisor: Dr. Wen Chen)

Battery Balancing Technology for Electric Cars Aug. 15-present

Objective: Charging series connected batteries by designing shunt resistor circuit.

Action: Reconfigured the circuit design on breadboard using resistors, diodes and N channel MOSFET switch controlled by Arduino micro-controller for simultaneously charging four Li-ion batteries in series and estimating the state of charge and state of health of the batteries.

Impact: Increases durability of the batteries, restricts overcharging and prevents it from aging.

Other Projects:

Project# 1

Formula Hybrid SAE Electrical Workshop Oct. 15 – present

Objective: Working on Orion Battery Management system prominently used for HEV, PHEV, EV.

Action: Scrutinize components like motors, drivers, cell harness compatible to the 84 cell batteries specification depending on its voltage generation, heat management and torque generation and accordingly provide proper solutions.

Project# 2

Design and Fabrication of Micro Bolometer sensor using thermal imaging Jan. 16-present

Objective: Analyzed various thermal detectors used in Night Vision Technology used in cameras and finalized to design and fabricate Micro Bolometer Sensor looking at its advantages over other detectors.

Action: Designed the Sensor on AutoCAD and started the step by step fabrication process. i.e. Photolithography.

Impact: Developed a sensor using this fabrication process and used it for thermal imaging.

Project# 3

Power Flow Analysis Sept. 15- Dec. 15

Objective: Analyze a power flow system.

Action: Designed a power system on Power World Simulator and analyzed the power flow using Newton Raphson and Gauss Seidal methods and then developed a MATLAB program to verify the outputs. Performed further power flow analysis by adding transformers and capacitors in the system.

Project# 4

CAN bus simulation using CANoe Feb.16- March 16

Objective: To perform CAN communication between three different nodes used in modern day vehicles.

Action: Configured the signals, messages & environmental variables on CAN nodes using CANdb++ Editor. Synchronized the nodes by designing three CAN nodes using CANoe simulation setup. Developed a CAPL program for each node to send messages across two different buses. Displayed the output on the LCD’s using CANoe Panel Designer.

Impact: Prioritizing the node messages to avoid any failure in communication during vehicle accidents.

Project# 5

Arduino controlled Maze solving Robot March 16- April 16

Objective: Develop a robot to solve the maze following the maze algorithm.

Action: Built a robot hardware using components like IR sensors, LM293D Motor Driver IC, DC motor on the robot chassis and controlled the overall functionality using Arduino micro-controller programming.

Impact: These humanoid robots are used by the military to detect bomb sites during war.

University of Mumbai, MH, India

Graduate Research Project: (Advisor: Mr. Yogesh Gholap)

WiTricity based Fuel Free Eco Car Nov. 12- Nov. 13

Objective: Referring to MIT’s WiTricity Technology developed a wireless charging electric car which worked on the concept of electromagnetic resonance.

Action: Designed the car circuitry using AutoCAD and assembled on PCB, developed the algorithm for software in C++ programming language, compiled on microcontroller ATmega8535 and tested the complete circuit functioning.

Impact: Direct wireless power interconnections can replace costly vehicle wiring harnesses and slip rings.

Work Experience

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) June 13- Aug. 13

Engineering Intern

Worked in the Network Operation Center in different telephone exchanges across Mumbai troubleshooting technical queries of the internet broadband.

Activities

Member of IEEE Wayne Student’s Chapter. Sept. 15- present

Member of Formula Hybrid Society of Automotive Engineers. Dec. 15- present

Member of Indian Society of Technical Education. Feb. 08- Dec. 12

Certification

Laboratory Safety Training at Wayne State University. Feb. 16- Feb. 17
