Job Description:
Gives direct nursing care.
Identifies nursing need of the patient.
Plans, gives and evaluates nursing care.
Admits patients.
Performs such nursing activities as bathing, hair shampoo, oral hygiene, shaving and bed making.
Does skin prep to patients for surgery.
Assists patients in wheelchair when going home.
Endorses patients for surgery in the operating room to the OR nurse.
Accompanies critically (close monitoring) patient to any diagnostic procedures in the Radiology Department, 2D echo/Stress Test Department, CT Scan, and MRI.
Assist patient in maintaining proper position of body and utilizing body mechanics.
Take and records vital signs and report to undersigned if with abnormalities.
Observes medical supplies.
Observes signs and symptoms, institutes remedial actions when appropriate and records in the chart.
Reports observation to the physician.
Observes and responds to patients emotional and spiritual needs.
Acts as liason between patients and physicians.
Interprets to the patient for, and assist physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic orders.
Carries out doctor’s order.
Assist physicians when examining patients.
Performs irrigations, catheterizations and give enemas.
Administers and charts medications and patient’s reaction to medication.
See to it that the equipment receives proper care and maintenance
Reports to head nurse any malfunction and broken equipment.
Discharge patients and advise proper home medications.
Does nursing documentation upon admission and discharge of patients.
Performs post mortem care.
Teaches and directs non-professional nursing personnel if head nurse of the unit is on leave.
Acts as senior nurse/ acting nurse supervisor when so delegated.
Receives and endorses ward equipment and supplies.
Gives health teaching.
Interprets hospital policies and procedures.
Maintain good relationship with other hospital personnel.
Charts accurately medications and treatments given.
Attends meetings and conferences and seminars.
