Funded by Nissan, the Nismo race team were in the process of a complete re-design of their Le Mans race car. Nissan Japan unexpectedly closed the project down on December 22.

Co-ordinated two year FORD aero development program. This entailed one year spent on site at Dearborn and extensive travel to Europe to attend tests and manufacturer meetings. The focus of this project was on the use of CFD as an advanced design tool to improve the aerodynamic performance of vehicles currently in the design phase.
Headed R & D department designing and developing new wind tunnel test technologies, (model motion system, quasi-pneumatic tires, bike rig, rolling road tunnel insert, etc.). The quasi-pneumatic tire system was a two year design and development program. It resulted in the first commercially available pneumatic tires for wind tunnel testing available worldwide. This technology is now the subject of a worldwide patent application with several F1 teams already interested.
Ran company intern program, for BSc graduate students, in the drawing office acquainting them with design principles and practice.

Design engineer on the Lola T9210 Group C car of all types of components.
Senior design engineer on the Indycar program for five years. Oversaw Indycar chassis design and production, (including jigging and hard points, etc.). Original designer of the single-blade anti-roll bar system which originated on 1996 Indycar.
Extensive design experience from concept to detailing of all parts of the car - machined, fabricated, cast, and composite components. Designed cast components ranging in size from gearbox casings to suspension uprights, and composite components and molds from chassis to electronics boxes. Familiar with all aspects of techniques related to production - jigging, machining, welding, pattern making, mold design and manufacture, heat treatments, stress relieving, surface finishes, etc.
Travelled extensively to the US, (during early season before the new car design phase began), as customer liaison engineer to Project Indy, Payton Coyne Racing, Galles Racing, AJ Foyt Enterprises.

Worked as a contract structures designer in the aerospace industry on numerous projects, including the MRCA Tornado, Bae 146, DeHavilland Dash 8 and Airbus A310 aircraft.
Gained experience of all aspects of aircraft construction – sheet metal, three and five axis NC machine design, composite structures, and super-plastic aluminum forming.
Learned the technique of full-scale layout drafting, which entails the production of very accurate, non-dimensioned, flat-developed, template drawings of sheet metal components – including compound curvature panels such as wing skins.
During this period, I actively pursued a career as a race driver.
