Assigned to the Federal Reserve’s Enterprise Hosting Team to assist with datacenter consolidation of 4 remote facilities and the migration of both physical and virtual machine workload instances from source to target.

Participated in the assessment, analysis, preparation and provisioning of all production and development physical and virtual machine instances for p2v and v2v conversion, workload migration and data storage provisioning.

Performed administrative support duties within a VMware 5.5 clustered host environment, also monitoring the environment using Splunk Enterprise for dashboard monitoring, Solarwinds Network discovery and HP Systems Insight Manager. Data was collected from all machine sources, formats and locations and indexed via a real time dashboard for monitoring and daily reporting. HP SIM was used to monitor physical instances of all HP Server hardware throughout the enterprise and Double Take was used for data transfer and synchronization.

Assisted with data center operational support duties by identifying and remediating performance issues, network connectivity issues and server application abnormalities logging and managing ticket escalation through resolution using CA Service desk.

Assisted with data center support duties. Reviewed physical hardware and monitored using HP SIM for all hardware failures and managed replacement of failed parts. Decommissioned old hardware for surplus and replaced new hardware for physical build outs. Supported network connectivity and power cabling issues.

Performed server provisioning through template based clones, (VMware) scripted installs (SCCM) and HP Smart Start for physical machine builds.

Updated Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 r2 and 2012 OS and migrated data using Double Take.

Implemented a server migration solution to migrate source server workloads into virtual machine instances.

Servers were migrated and converted to virtual instances on several VMware ESX 4.1.0 clustered hosts. Installed and configured PlateSpin migrate 9.2.0 into Citizens existing management environment.

Installed and used Double Take and Second copy to migrate and sync data.

Performed functional testing to validate product performance and reporting. Provided work up documentation to departmental Vice president for review. Used PlateSpin migrate to discover source workloads and build jobs to complete server migrations. Worked with IBM Global’s AMF Conversions and Migrations team to satisfy their client Dejardin Financial of (Montreal, Canada) to convert 550 servers to an ESXi 4.0 virtual platform.

As a team we assessed, discovered, migrated and performed server synchronization to ensure data integrity.

Using Novell’s Platespin 9.0.2 we performed P2V, V2V and P2P migrations creating and staging jobs both in a development and production environments before final cutover and actual migration.

As an independent contractor I worked with various clients in implementing and supporting Wintel based network solutions and Citrix PS 4.5 farms.

Also assisted clients in implementing virtual solutions utilizing VMware ESX 3.5, Virtual Center 2.5 Virtual Workstation 6, MS Virtual Server 2005.

Created, configured and administered virtual clusters using VMware HA and DRS services, setting alarms, monitoring resources and maintaining data stores using NetApp Snapp Manager. Created, deployed and migrated virtual machines via the Virtual Center 3.0 client console.

VMware Admin \ Migration Engineer

Served as a Wintel Systems Administrator for the Constellation Energy Wintel support group.

Administered and supported a VMWare Infrastructure 3 environment.

Installing and configuring virtual machine instances on ESX 3.0.1 host servers, managing multiple virtual machines and their resources over several hosts using VirtualCenter Server 2.0.1. These tasks were accomplished by utilizing VMWare virtual infrastructure desktop client 2.0. This group supported 2000+ Windows 2000 and 2003 standalone servers, virtual servers and HP blades.

Server operating systems were deployed using the HP Proliant Rapid Deployment Pack powered by the Altiris eXpress Deployment Server.

Server templates were created and used to deploy several different configurations of Microsoft Windows 2000 and 2003 advanced and enterprise servers. This group also managed and maintained server hardware using HP Systems insight Manager Version 5.0 with sp5. Through collections or grouping of server systems we performed such tasks as monitored hardware health status, deployed and administered firmware and deployed HP support packs. As a team we optimized resources and managed critical and non-critical events.

Enterprise patch maintenance duties were performed using SMS 2003. Patch sets were advertised to SMS clients and deployed to test environments across the enterprise and eventually deployed to production level servers. It was our responsibility to provide support to business clients by validating their servers were made eligible to receive such updates and that updates were delivered as expected in delegated maintenance windows. Servers were accessed via the HP Integrated Lights Out (ILO) web interface.

On occasion I was asked to manage multiple projects that involved allocating resources to complete necessary project tasks and project plan creation. These included upgrading and supporting various CEG site server environments in Louisville, Ky. Houston, Tx. and locally throughout the state of Maryland.

As a member of the CSC implementation team we designed the Active Directory structure and implemented Windows 2000\2003 Domain controllers and member servers at the forest root level designating and configuring FSMO roles, file replication services and trusts within Active Directory. Installed and configured DHCP, DNS and WINS.

Created the Organizational unit structure for Users, groups, computers, domain controllers, member servers and infrastructure servers. Migrated user accounts, files and associated rights using the MSDSS migration tool from Netware to 2000\2003.

Implemented and configured a secure and reliable patch management solution utilizing Microsoft SUS (Software Update Service) to replicate, approve and deploy critical updates, security updates and software patches to server and client machines. Install and configure ESX Server, VMware VirtualCenter, and multiple guest virtual machines.

Create VMware virtual machines, network them and set their priorities for accessing resources.

Migrated physical machines to virtual machines using VMwares p2v migration tool and local data using Double Take for data migration.

Implemented HP Insight Manager version 7.0 to manage and monitor all HP Proliant servers ensuring optimal uptime and performance. Configured the HP version control repository manager to automatically download, manage and deploy firmware updates and support packs to all insight manager clients.

Configured and deployed HP client management agents and support pack files using the HP Remote Deployment Utility.

Introduced and managed the Microsoft ADS 1.0 automated deployment services controller to create, capture and deploy baseline Windows 2000\2003 server operating systems. Configured and deployed baseline workstation images based on business groups with Ghost Enterprise version 8 and applied GPO security templates at both the Domain and Computers OU level.
