Project Details

Name of the Project: DESIGN, FABRICATION AND PERFORMANCE INVESTIGATION OF VERTICAL AXIS WIND MILL

Role played while undertaking the project: Design, Fabrication

A brief description of the project:

The above mentioned project is the concept of using wind as a source for the generation of power requires the need of using a single perfectly aligned shaft to sustain and support the turbines.

The entire setup works on the same principle as that of the present day wind -electric power generating unit. The velocity of air is used to have an impingement on to the blades of a wind turbine and the alternator is directly built into the shaft of wind turbine, thus reducing power loss due to multiple transmission lines as well as friction. Since the alternator is directly connected to the shaft without the usage of gear mechanisms, the rotation of the alternator is directly proportional to the rotation of the windmill. This design is applicable for high speed wind power generations but lower torque. It rotates the turbine with high speeds and then it produces power. The wind part is connected to a shaft which is vertical to the ground i.e. the rotor shaft is vertical to the ground hence it is called vertical axis wind turbine.

Main designed components

Design of blade

Design of shaft

Design of alternator

Name of the Project: An Engine Lifter

Role played while undertaking the project: Team leader

A brief description of the project:

The above mentioned project is typical crane which is designed to lift an engine from the chassis of the vehicle and then place it in the ground and vice versa, concerning the efforts used by the local Mechanics to take out the Engine from the ground.

This project is based on hoisting machinery i.e. design and fabrication of Hydraulic engine lifter. It consists of 3 main parts - horizontal arm, vertical column and the base. The column and the arm are connected mutually by a link. S-hook is fixed at the free-end of the arm. The up and down motion of the arm is achieved by using hydraulic piston-cylinder arrangement. A hydraulic pump is used to power this actuator. This whole setup is fixed to a large base which balances the column and the arm which includes the load that is carried by the hook that is around 500 to 600 kg. The base is provided with wheels so that the unit can be moved wherever necessary. It can also be used in cramped spaces. This type of lifters can be used in Garages, workshops etc.

Working:

The engine lifter works as follows -

The engine lifter should be placed in front of the chassis of the vehicle

With the help of chain the engine can be locked and it should be fixed to the S - hook

The engine is lifted with the help of actuator which works on the principle of hydraulic power

The engine which is lifted has to be placed in a required position with the movement of the lifter.

When we look into the positive view about the engine lifter, it saves time when compared to the manually operated plunger powered lifter and less human effort is required. Wheels of the engine provide easy movement of the lifter on the ground.

Personal Strength

A positive attitude towards the work.

Looking forward to learn new things.

Willing to learn new skills.

Understand the different mentality of people and capable to motivate the people.

CAM

CIM

Diploma in computer applications.
