Career Summary:

For most of my career, I was the Automation/Technology Shop Manager of HydroChem in Canal Fulton, Ohio. I built their engineering services from nothing, as there was no one doing any design or engineering at that location when I began at HydroChem. I was also the direct supervisor of those in engineering, the machine shop, and the fabrication/garage/welding shop. For nearly all of those 20+ years I was the only designer at what is now known as HydroChem's "Advanced Technology Center." In building the departments I supervised, I wrote job descriptions and advertisements, did recruiting, reference checks, interviewing, and made job offers to prospective machinists, mechanics, engineers and repairmen while keeping higher management aware of the process.

When I began working at HydroChem, they had not even one engineering drawing; they had only a few scribbles on scraps of paper. I worked until HydroChem was the leader in the environmental services industry in Automation & Technology where they enjoyed equipment and parts costs multiple times lower than competing companies who have to purchase equipment. I traveled a great deal in order to meet with customers in order to solve their problems. When HydroChem expanded beyond our own shop's capacities, I also located and worked with outside machine shops, fabrication shops, engineering firms, and others in order to help design and manufacture needed equipment. I maintained quality control for outside and inside shop work.

While working full-time jobs, I also taught AutoCAD (a computer based engineering drafting program) part-time at Stark State College in Canton, Ohio. My student approval rating at Stark State was 94%, while the average for all teachers at that time was only 83%. The number of classes and number of students for these classes increased dramatically while I was there. In fact, for the first time ever, the program was increasing from just AutoCAD I and AutoCAD II to include AutoCAD III and a summer class. I also taught in Stark State's "Teen College" for middle school and high school students. Also, I set up the first ever AutoCAD program with a local high school’s adult education program (Perry Local Schools: Massillon, Ohio) where I taught AutoCAD I and AutoCAD II. I developed all the instructional materials for all of these courses.

After moving on from HydroChem, I moved up to PSC Industrial Outsourcing where I was part of a team that worked with equipment manufacturers to implement automation into the work process to keep employees safe. This job involved communicating with PSC branch personel all over the United States in order to determine what problems needed to be solved, working with outside engineering, manufacturing, and other personnel to create needed equipment, and then coordinating everyone involved in order to test, evaluate, and improve the new equipment.

After PSC, I worked for Global Machining Inc., which includes two other companies. For Under Pressure Systems Inc., I designed equipment for the environmental services industry. I worked with Gulf Systems streamlining the process of rebuilding vacuum trucks. I also traveled to customer sites to determine needed equipment, and then I wrote up sales contracts for that equipment. Also, I worked with vendors to manufactuer equipment at lower costs for resale.
