Significant Accomplishments
Designed a work process management system using “Travelers” to inform operators how each individual job should be accomplished and in what order each operation should be completed. Saved immeasurable amount of money by establishing standard operating procedures and eliminating process confusion, increasing productivity, reducing rework, and improving margins.
Created and implemented an inventory control system to maintain parts and stock levels and reduce part shortages preventing lost production time. Determined part numbers and designed a template/matrix to identify parts by assemble process.
Developed a rapid communication system (Information Modification Request) between operators and management. Operators would inform supervisors of errors with work instructions (wrong Part number, etc.) in order to ensure correct person received the information to implement the necessary change, and for the change to be recorded for future use.
Career History
E.M.I., Inc. Leander, Texas 1998 – Present
Industrial Engineering Manger
Progressed up from entry level position in the plant culminating as the Engineering Manager. Created systems and processes used to track job through the plant. Instrumental to the process of the plant becoming ISO 9001 certified and currently the Document Control person. Create part numbers for the various parts used in the plant and an inventory management system to track on hand part stock levels and pending orders.
The company was using a learning curve that charged less per hour for labor when the volume increased. Recommended that this practice be changed for any process that is not performed on the machines. The machines allow the work to be performed faster when the volume increases but not when the operator is using hand tools. After analyzing the data determined that once an operator had produced five units of a product by hand they are performing as fast as the can and the curve should not be used after this point for hand operations.
Pioneered an initiative for the plant to become ISO 9001 certified in order to increase marketability for the company. Assisted the ISO consultant by drafting documents required to meet IWO requirements. The company met requirements for certification on first attempt resulting in new contracts and increased revenue.
Discovered a sub assembly of a product was not being billed as a production assembly. Implemented a check and balances procedure to ensure all levels and revisions of each product is included in the quote and purchase orders before being accepted.
Created a process and document log tracking any repairs made to all products in the plant. The log enables operators to discover patterns of errors and record these issues in order to prevent rework or start over when there is an error on a particular board saving considerable man hours.
Earned Bachelors of Science in Business, concentration in Accounting with a 3.2 average, while working fulltime and raising a family. Currently pursuing MBA.
