June 2010-Present

Direct contract with an electrical engineering company in Charlotte NC. Implementing a standard costing system, with an MRP base. Complete factory measurement in all departments. Lean principles. Have one report.

Feb 2010- April 2010.

A plant layout project. Involving the use of Visio and AutoCAD. This company is in the process of increasing its manufacturing capability with the addition of a 60,000 square foot extension.

July 2008-2009 A Work measurement project in the Textiles industry using rated (pacesetting) production studies in weaving, warping and slashing departments. I also implemented an incentive scheme. Machinery involved in operations was Dornier, Tseudokama, Air Jet, Rapier, and Sulzer Looms.

2007 -2008 An Industrial Engineering project with a Marine Engineering company in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where I implemented a stock control system with approximately 100,000 SKUs and formulated a simplistic MRP data base for stock control.

March 2006-2007. Freelance Consultancy

Conducted productivity surveys and implemented productivity improvements in various companies. Notably Pep-Boys logistics. Implemented work cell order picking and packing, introduction of RF monitoring equipment

Magnet Joinery (Pre-Manufactured kitchens). Involved in set-up operations, for tooling equipment, notching drilling and rebating machinery. Implemented standard set-up data sheets.

Responsibilities where for work measurement and method study, and cost comparisons and reductions. Implement new production methodologies. Reducing production cost. Writing work instructions and formulating bill of materials and cost’s.

1990-2000 Fox Harper Ltd. Management Consultants.

Senior Industrial Engineer/Consultant.

Employed by Fox Harper. I was contracted to a diverse range of Companies and Industries. During this time I was heavily involved in the textiles industry, notably Courtaulds, Carrington-Viella, Paton Baldwin’s, B.Y Clothing, Ladybird, Mitchell Walker, etc.

Manufacturing units included weaving, Sewing, Knitting C.M.T.

Machinery involved, Dornier, Hattersley, Northrop, and Toyoda. (Looms)

Brother, Juki, Toyoda, Gerber, Eagle.

Major cost reduction exercises to enable companies to be competitive with eastern bloc countries. Implemented new methodologies, factory and cutting room layouts and the installation of Eton hanging systems.

1984-1990 Peter Blonde Ltd. Textile Manufacturers.

Production Manager.

Originally contracted to this company as a Senior Industrial Engineer. I was asked to fill the position of Production Manager of this clothing manufacturer. This included the Cutting Room, Sewing Room, Press Room and Warehouse and Distribution Center. Key responsibilities were to oversee the everyday smooth and efficient running of this factory employing some 500 operators. This was done with assistance of the work study (Industrial Engineering) department and four supervisors. I also implemented management reporting systems (MRP).

I was also involved with cost reduction through the implementation of handling system plant. I also completed the British Institute of Management Certificate.

1980-1984 Self Employed. Freelance Industrial Engineer.

Contracting to Management Services companies within the United Kingdom. My briefs varied from basic work measurement assignments, through to the design and development of production planning, and control, costing, and management control systems, and production management assignments. The Introduction and maintenance of incentive schemes and value and non -value added schemes. Cost reduction by the introduction of new method technology, work place engineering and design.

1976-1980 Marston Paxman Ltd. Refrigeration Engineers.

Industrial Engineer.

A classical Industrial Engineering position for a company manufacturing Refrigeration & Air Conditioning equipment. Reporting to the Senior Industrial Engineer, principle responsibilities were basic work measurement, and the introduction of methods improvement, design tooling jigs and fixtures, workplace and plant lay-out, and maintenance of an Individual and group incentive scheme. Capital expenditure justification for plant and equipment purchases. Educational qualifications achieved at this time included the Institute of Management Services Diploma. BSIE Equivalent.

1970-1976 Ellerman Lines Ltd. Shipping Company. Marine Engineer Officer.

Joining this company as a junior marine engineer officer, I was promoted from Fourth Engineer through to Senior Second Engineer. My responsibilities were for the maintenance and operation of the main and auxiliary equipment. This equipment ranged in main engines of between 6,000-80,000 Kw. Auxiliary equipment, (Generators, Boilers, Calorifiers, Refrigeration, Pumping &distribution machinery. The welfare and safety of approximately 30 crew members. Technical Education included refrigeration certification and The Department of Trade Examiner of Marine Engineers second Class Motor Certificate. (Higher National Diploma).

1966-1970 Brierly Collier & Hartley. Textile Engineers. Engineering Apprenticeship.

A fully indentured apprenticeship. Key responsibilities were to learn all aspects of an engineering apprenticeship. This included, Drawing Office, machine shop, (turning, milling, drilling), Tin-shop, (sheet metal fabrication work), Fabrication, welding, (fabrication etc) and Fitting, (the assembly of textile machinery). Technically educated to City & Guilds Institute of London, Full technician Certification.
