Datacenter just completed in Philadelphia, PA. Pittsburgh is too be Philadelphia’s Disaster Recovery site. Other offices are in the Malvern, United Kingdom, as well as Bangalore, India.
Career Highlights:
Assisted in the management of the Product Development and Quality Assurance Infrastructure. This consisted of maintaining the physical availability of all virtual and physical servers in use for the Enterprise.
Deployed the use of Hewlett Packard C700 Blade enclosures for the use with HP BL20p class Blade BL20p servers, as well as the entire DL Series of physical servers.
Racked, cabled, deployed Operating Systems and maintained all physical servers as needed. This included HP and Dell servers.
Maintained common change control practices.
Created new cluster for this hardware, as all servers were then deployed as ESXI hosts for vmware.
Redesigned network infrastructure to provide a more robust, redundant environment with the use of spanning tree network protocol, and additional VLAN’s to distribute traffic accordingly, separating storage from standard network, with both HP and Cisco switches.
Implemented iSCSI, and additionally new NFS storage.
After new NFS storage was brought on-line, new VLAN was created to segregate traffic, primarily for expanding virtual machines where cluster was growing rapidly. This was also done in a redundant architecture.
Managed the vmware environment, suggesting and implementing changes for 2 existing clusters to result in fine tuning and implementing High Availability in each, resulting in robust and redundant environment for vmotion as needed, with HA.
Assisted in the relocation of these assets as the firm was planning on moving to a new physical location. The project calls/called for about an 85% reduction in both physical and virtual servers. VM’s were migrated to a new site located in Philadelphia, PA. Physical servers were either P2V’d when possible, decommissioned, or if still required, are being retained at the new facility, where yet to be determined, in the local area, with a much smaller footprint. Current location has since reduced square footage to accommodate this.
Reduction in power / cooling costs exceeded 80 % as project continued in successful pattern. Small footprint will remain, but managed remotely by Philadelphia team.
Developed, documented and deployed methods for patching Microsoft systems to maintain up to date Operating Systems using Microsoft WSUS and Powershell.
Served in an on-call position. Since this office provided servers for locations around the world, this was around the clock.
Focused on meeting SLA requirements
Monitoring with Nagious, What’s Up Gold, & Solar Winds
Authored and maintained documentation for environment, publishing to Confluence and Jira for others to access as needed. Visio utilized for network drawings, Excel for spreadsheets and Word for documenting all capacities as needed.
For example: Asset tracking, Asset management data, IP tracking, Rack mapping, License assignments, Audit support, Review products for future consideration in streamlining the environment to achieve directed, or suggested goals.
