WORK EXPERIENCE

Responsible for computing environments that are utilized by hundreds of staff and thousands of clients at non-profit social services agency. The agency’s twelve sites include mental health clinics, special education schools, group homes, short and intermediate term residential programs, after-school programs, community-based therapy program offices, and administrative offices.

Work together with the rest of the small IT team.

Implement and audit HIPAA compliant policies regarding PHI. This includes access to, logging of access to, electronic transmission of, encryption of, and destruction of PHI. Train staff on these policies.

Set up, maintain, and repair network hardware infrastructure for agency with multiple LANS (including multiple VLANS) integrated over a WAN. Network backbone consists of Ethernet and Fiber Optic cabling. Work with HP & Cisco Level II & Level III switches, switch stacks, chassis switches, Wireless Controllers, Wireless Access Points, VPN Firewall Appliances, and multi-WAN port cable modems.

Set up, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair network software implementation including DNS, DHCP, VPN Routing, firewall, and content filtering policies. Set up, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with always-on site-to-site VPN tunnels. Configure and resolve issues with VPN Concentrators and client-side IPSEC & SSL Cisco, Watchguard, and OpenVPN software implementations.

Set up new servers by installing appropriate hardware components, installing an Operating System, installing and configuring all roles (including domain controller roles if desired), and installing all software.

Implement and configure centralized monitoring of server hardware components. Primarily use Dell Open Manage Server Administrator and Dell Open Manage Essentials, together with SNMP traps. Set up email notification to system administrators in the event of a problem, as well as logging.

Responsible for Active Directory and ClearOS Linux LDAP Directory domains. Create new domains, upgrade domain schemata, change domain controller functional levels, roles, and OS versions, add, remove, and replace writeable and read-only domain controllers as well as member servers, add sites to domains, and migrate sites from ClearOS domains to Windows domains. Delegate Active Directory roles and permissions. Set up DFS Namespaces. Set up and configure DHCP and DNS servers. Set up and configure directory-based permissions for files, folders, and shares.

Make extensive use of Group Policy Management Console features to create, target, manage, modify, and troubleshoot policy organization and application. Make extensive use of Group Policy Editor to create, troubleshoot, and modify specific policy settings to meet the needs of the agency.

Keep Windows Update patching current on all Windows computers throughout the agency; primarily use WSUS for this purpose. Install and configure upstream and downstream WSUS servers and all WSUS policies, periodically approve updates as needed, monitor deployment of updates, and address any problems.

Keep all software and all system configurations on all devices throughout the agency up to date. Implement and utilize PDQDeploy software deployment tool to push additions, modifications, and removal of software or computer configurations, on demand or on schedule, to devices throughout the agency. Use pre-built deployment packages as well as packages that I have built myself. Maintain synchronized copies of the package repository at each physical site using DFS.

Implement and maintain Spiceworks automated asset management system for all hardware devices across all sites. Configure ports, protocols, and credentials with which to query devices, Active Directory Integration, database backup, the Central Server, Remote Collectors and Remote Agents (which gather and report all information on behalf of remote sites and devices over the VPN or public internet), internet and intranet access to the system, all firewall, port-forwarding, and Internet DNS rules to securely allow these communications and access, and all other settings.

Configure, customize, and use heavily the help desk ticketing system component of Spiceworks.

Responsible for all local and cloud-based backup systems. Implement, audit daily, maintain, modify, and resolve all problems with them to ensure multiple redundant data-deduplicated versioned encrypted copies of data are maintained for the required time period and then deleted. Local copies are maintained on various types of media including backup tapes, hard drive cartridges, external hard disks, flash drives, and NAS systems. Data includes all file system based data, SQL and other databases, and bare metal and system state server system backups.

Encrypt all server data drives, backup media, and laptops. Maintain copies of all encryption keys.

Responsible for properly functioning antivirus system and ensuring that all devices remain free of viruses, malware, threats, and security risks. Install and configure, monitor, update, maintain disaster recovery requirements, migrate to different hardware, troubleshoot, resolve problems, and intervene to resolve risks primarily using Symantec antivirus products. Initially this was Symantec System Center/Symantec Antivirus, and later this was Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager/Symantec Endpoint Protection. Configure all policies, create and deploy (with various means) all managed and unmanaged client packages, and configure all reporting. Maintain multiple distinct Symantec sites with one or more Management Servers acting as Replication Partner, as well as set up and maintain scenarios with devices at multiple physical sites utilizing the WAN to be members of a single Symantec site and report into a single Management Server. Implement ClamAV on Linux systems.

Manage Network Solutions hosted and Rackspace hosted email systems. This includes management of internet domain MX records, domain-wide email policies, creation, deletion, and migration of email boxes individually and en masse, management of company address book, email group lists, and email aliases. Manage memotoo LDAP address book directory. Set up and troubleshoot ClearOS-based email servers.

Configure UPS software tools to handle power events by gracefully shutting down servers, send out email notifications to system administrators, and to log the event. Configure UPS devices for remote management.

Agency historically used an MS Access split database that was built in house. Database was not compatible with any Operating System newer than Windows XP. Multiple local and remote users needed to append data to, run reports from, and modify the database tables and queries after Windows XP computers were out of support and no longer in use at the agency. I devised and implemented a method by which needed access, use, and backup of the database could be maintained in an encrypted and secure manner.

Configure and network Ricoh copy/fax/scan/print multifunction devices. Set up SMB network share access for scanning to network folders, hold and lock print functionality, secure access to scan and copy functionality, and hard drive data encryption and deletion.

Manage IPads via Apple Configurator and an IPad cart.

Set up new physical locations by configuring and placing network infrastructure, servers and related hardware, domain environment, workstations, and printers.

Set up and deploy approximately 100 new workstations each year. Install and configure industry-specific software on to workstations, such as Genogram Millennium Maker, Therascribe, and Rediker School Management Software. Configure Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox per requirements of industry-specific web-based database applications such as Qualifacts Carelogic.

Train new staff on agency technology policies and procedures. Train staff on various technologies and applications.
