I started from the ground up in rental houses, learning what it takes to get power from the breaker box to the outlets in every room. This required crawling under the houses through a crawl hole, running, and stapling wire from the outlets to the breaker box. I also ran wire from the breaker box to lights, light switches, and ceiling fans. This required crawling through the attic of a house with little visibility and oxygen in extremely hot temperatures. I tore out carpet, removed tack strips, and laid linoleum. I also prepared inside walls and ceilings for painting, and painted them. I scraped paint from the exterior of the house as needed and painted the exterior. I did yard maintenance including: Mowing, weed eating, edging, pruning and disposing of debris and trash.

I started this job with zero knowledge of the heating and air industry. Every day presented another humbling challenge. I accepted my failures, and was moved by my successes. I learned each customer’s first, and last name, and the company they worked for as required. I answered phones with a professional demeanor, and a friendly voice. I looked at spec sheets in order to help customers know what parts they were asking for. I took care of freight, including shipping, receiving, and pricing. I opened the store and closed the store. I passed my forklifting training and received my license for the “LP Gas Sit-Down Rider”. I received inventory shipments, and assisted with yearly inventory. I also took care of janitorial duties, as well as indoor and outdoor maintenance.

After graduating from college, this was the first job I chose to do. Before this job, all I knew was going to school, and performing my role as a Student/Athlete. I wanted to ease into customer service/interaction. It was a perfect start for me. I dealt with customers of all ages. I was very competitive when it came to performance goals and fulfilling my role as a salesman. I sold everything from a $120 dollar pair of shoes to a pink Nike headband with a breast cancer awareness logo on it. I cleaned customer’s shoes to attempt to sell them shoe cleaner and was successful quite often. I got paid to travel to a different city to shadow some of the most successful Hibbett employees in Oklahoma. I taught little kids how to properly tie their shoes in multiple occasions. I stood out among the rest and earned the title Assistant Coach.
