ORACLE CORP. - Compute Resources Burlington, MA 2008- 2015 Senior Unix/Linux System Administrator
Managed a highly automated large scale global Unix/Linux data-center with hundreds of servers and petabytes of data used in CPU and System Modeling, Synthesis, and Verification.
Project Leader: Planned, coordinated, and monitored hardware and software upgrades for local and remote data-centers. Coordinated upgrades with end-users, minimizing impact and downtime.
Team Lead - Led a team of SAs that monitored and corrected any user problems, created new accounts, backed up file servers, fixed hardware problems, for 24/7 multi site operation.
Site Lead – Responsible to set priorities, managed assets and dealt with facilities issues of the local compute farm.
Mentored junior team members, training them on standard procedures and best practices to maintain high-quality of service to end-users.
Developed technical operational procedures; Used TWiki and browser based tools to document procedures so all SAs would perform similar tasks the same way at all sites.
Coordinated with both local and remote customers as well as external and internal suppliers, delivering a robust, reliable, and cost-effective service.
Participated as member of an on-call team for 24/7 coverage on the global data-centers. SUN MICROSYSTEMS INC. - multiple groups Burlington, MA 1995-2008 Senior System Administrator
Managed large compute farms used by Linux kernel and ASIC development groups.
Reconfigured and expanded the backup capabilities of the data center, thereby cutting cost while improving reliability.
Used Nagios to monitor servers and network.
Managed network for a large development lab used for performance testing and debugging of prototype hardware with multiple VLANs.
Consultant for new data-center design including room layout, air conditioning and power distribution, avoiding potential problems after the introduction of next-generation systems. This resulted in a data center with reduced costs and hot-spots as well as a longer expectancy.
Wrote CGI script for a web based reservation system for users to reserve time on limited prototype hardware.
Wrote Perl script to do health monitoring of compute farm and important lab infrastructure with paging/email notification, reducing down time on systems needed 24/7.
Founding member and Co-chairman of the Sun Burlington Lab Council which set standards for new labs, encouraged sharing of knowledge and resources and reduced costs. Lockheed Martin Nashua NH 1992-1995
