ARisk is the firm wide Risk Aggregation platform providing a global view of all market risk of at UBS. Loads exceeding 4 billion rows a day from 30 plus systems feed a 200TB Oracle database.

Performed the architectural review of current state and provided a road map and implementation plan for the next generation architecture. Analysis included enumerating possible architectures and the evaluation of the future state.

Redesigned the ETL workflow of the risk fact table to achieve a performance improvement from a baseline throughput of 5 thousand rows per second to 250 thousand rows per second with current volumes at 100 million per second.

Improving data extraction rates from 500 thousand rows per second with the existing platform to a proven capacity of 32 million per second on the new linux platform.

Architected and migrated ARisk twice first from solaris to linux and then to Oracle Exadata.

New York Stock Exchange – Sr. Database Architect Consultant 4/2006 - 12/2006

As part of the Enterprise Architecture Group, participated in all phases from design to implementation of the Corporate Information Factory (CIF) project. An Oracle Data Warehouse of post-trade activity from the various NYSE real-time systems.

Achieved high-speed data loading of real-time exchange activity data into the CIF, for surveillance, research and capacity planning. Instrumental in the turnaround of the project, and the mainframe was shut down on schedule with a cost savings of over $5 million.

Designed and coded the ETL infrastructure to load the System Order Database, Consolidated Quotes and Trades and others into the CIF, a combined daily load of 600 Million rows or 150 GB per day, with a total database size of about 100TB. All jobs run within 1 hour utilizing the grid architecture with Oracle 10G RAC on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Gather and analyze trading related data to make sure there is sufficient system infrastructure and capacity to support daily trading and trend analysis.

Main technology features utilized include Oracle partitioned tables, external tables, Advanced PL/SQL, Real Application Clusters, Red Hat Linux, and k-shell.
