Group Manager (2006-2009 & 2014-2016)

Managed and directed three Plant Managers for the Wood Products Division.

As team member, developed and approved the annual plans and goals for budget and projects for three plants. Managed the plan implementation throughout the year.

Managed the development and coaching of three newly promoted Plant Managers and continued to manage their growth of knowledge and experience. Put employees in stretch roles and provided coaching to enhance their performance and capabilities.

Oversaw the policy changes for safety, environmental, management and Code of Conduct to ensure they were properly implemented in the division.

Subject matter expert (SME) in several technical areas such as refining, boilers and production line equipment.

Managed capital projects by gathering internal and external resources for bids based on the technical needs. Made a plan for installation and often managed the installation.

Energy Manager for a plant in Canada and formed an energy team of management and non-management employees to develop power reducing projects. Liaison between the plant and the Ministry. The plant received $4.8 million in rebates.

Assigned to close a plant in Duluth, Minnesota. The plant was closed with no safety incidents and no environmental issues. The plant closing costs were $600 thousand under budget.

Managed a plant in Jarratt, Virginia with a losing EBITDA of $300 thousand. Process improvements were made in three key areas. The end result was an EBITDA that turned to a positive $500 thousand by year end.

Plant Manager (2003-2006)

Managed a wood product plant consisting of 22 salaried and 98 hourly employees.

Teamed up with the controller to train the management team on how to understand the profit and loss statement. The training provided the knowledge needed to manage the budget for each manager’s department.

Constantly worked with team to improve uptime, first quality, and development of new products to improve return for our stock holders. Uptime improved from 97.5% to 98.2% and first quality improved from 97.3% to 98.5%. The development of a new product line increased profit by $600 thousand the first month.

Worked with the team and safety manager, improving safety at the plant through audits, guarding and training. The mill consistently received rewards from the Composite Panel Association for at least a 50% improvement in safety incidents. The first year improvement was 66%.
