Actian Corporation - November 2013 to Present

Provide telephone and email technical support for Ingres, Actian's relational database product, including development tools. This encompasses severe cases where systems are down, to advice and troubleshooting on database design, backup and recovery, application development, and query optimization. Duties:

Reproduce and solve problems encountered by the customer. Skills required to perform this function:

- Build and populate databases with pertinent data

- Write SQL to create tables, alter tables, retrieve and modify data according to the customer's needs. SQL was in ad-hoc queries and also in stored procedures

- Write Embedded SQL within C and C++ programs

Software Engineer

Computer Associates International - 2002 to October 2004 Provide enhanced technical support for Computer Associates' eTrust Policy Compliance security products. eTrust Policy Compliance performs scans on target computers for security vulnerabilities. GUI front-end communicated with agent systems using sockets over TCP/IP. Some scans were hard-coded into the product using Unix and Windows API calls (for example, to gather user and group information). Other checks were done using Visual Basic scripts (Windows environments) and Unix Shell scripts for Unix targets. Still more vulnerabilities were detected using an in-house utility called 'fixcheck', written in C++ which has a similar functionality to the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer. The fixcheck utility uses the same msssecure.xml file, which is downloaded automatically by the eTrust Policy Compliance from Microsoft. eTrust Policy Compliance is written in C++ and C, with components written with Perl, Unix shell scripts, XML, and VB scripts.

- Adding my own code to trace program execution

- Analyzing stack dumps and core dumps.
