Research Assistant July 2011– June 2012

Worked independently on “Expression cloning of Flu B HA gene from two different strains” involving restriction enzyme digestion of the clone, designing primers and carrying out the PCR reaction.

Gel Electrophoresis followed by cloning into plasmid vector.

Positive clones were cultured for maxi prep.

Gene was transfected into CHO and Vero cells by lipofectamine method.

Protein expressed was further purified by FPLC and characterized by SDS PAGE and Western blot.

St. John’s University Jamaica, NY

Graduate Research June 2010– May 2011

Worked in the study of gene that code for adhesins in A.nidulans.

Gene was transformed into the E.coli cell.

Plasmid DNA was digested with restriction enzyme and the gene insert was amplified with PCR and prepared for DNA sequencing.

Gene sequence was translated into amino acid sequence through EXPASSY tool. E.coli containing the inset was cultured and harvested.

Expressed protein was further purified with Affinity Chromatography and analyzed through Bradford assay, SDS PAGE and Western Blot.

St. Johns University Jamaica, NY

Teaching Assistant Sept 2009 – May 2011

Performed different molecular biology techniques like PCR, Gel Electrophoresis, Western Blot, Southern blot, etc.

Assist undergraduate students with the lab and theory in Anatomical, Physiological, Microbiological Sciences, Genetics and Molecular Biology.

Lab and theory on Drosophila Melanogaster.

Reliance Life Sciences Mumbai, India

Research Analyst July 2008 – May 2009

Worked on the project “Extraction and purification of prodigiosin from Serratia marcescens and its applications”, proving it as an antibacterial agent and antifungal agent involving different microbiology techniques like plating, testing and analyzing the test results.

Bioanalytical Research & Development Ltd. India

Research Associate Aug 2007 – May 2008

Performed research on ‘Production and application of bio-fertilizers using phosphate solubilizing microorganisms’ involving different microbiology techniques like plating, testing and analyzing the test results.
