Clinical Experience
Orthopaedic Surgery PA-C – Spine at CH Orthopedic and Spine Surgeons
December 1, 2014 to present – Supervising physician: Dr. Ravindra Shitut (primary), also my practice agreement alternates are: Dr. Mark Belew, Dr. Charles Grimshaw, and Dr. John Weltmer. I currently work with Dr. Shitut primarily and on a daily basis. On an intermittent basis, I work with the other three physicians as well. My responsibilities include: first assisting in surgery, performing H&Ps for same day admissions, preoperative and postoperative care for inpatients, patient and family education, admitting and discharging patients from inpatient service, ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic studies and laboratory testing in both inpatient and outpatient settings, outpatient clinic visits including H&Ps, injections, and other in office procedures at the discretion of and with consultation as needed with my physicians. I still also apply casts, splints, and braces as needed, although not as frequently as I did in my previous position. Technical Skills: first assisting during surgical procedures including but not limited to anterior cervical decompression and fusion with instrumentation, posterior cervical fusion (both by multiple manufacturers), posterior thoracic laminectomy with or without fusion and posterior instrumentation, lumbar laminectomy with or without fusion (TLIF or PLIF) and posterior instrumentation by open and minimally invasive techniques, anterior lumbar interbody fusion with instrumentation, extreme lateral interbody fusion, vertebrectomy with cage stabilization/fusion with instrumentation, kyphoplasty, and lumbar microdiscectomy; joint injection/aspiration, first assisting with general orthopedic procedures – total joint arthroplasty, ORIF, closed reduction, casting, splinting, bracing, removal of surgical drains, and dressing changes.

January 12, 2004 – November 5, 2010 – Supervising physician: Dr. J. Tracy Watson, direct supervisor. I worked with ten physicians, all of whom were included in my practice agreement. My responsibilities included: performing H&Ps for inpatients and same day admissions, preoperative and postoperative care for inpatients, obtaining informed consent for surgical procedures, coordinating with social services for initiating at home care or rehabilitation as needed, admitting and discharging patients from inpatient service, patient and family education, ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic studies and laboratory testing, first assisting in surgery and outpatient clinical follow-up. My primary responsibility was the orthopaedic trauma service. I worked with residents on a daily basis and participated in daily rounds for the orthopaedic trauma service. In addition to this, I also gave in-service training to the nursing staff involving orthopedic equipment, conditions, or procedures. I also participated in data collection for studies that are being conducted by Orthopaedic Surgery.
Technical Skills: first assisting during surgical procedures, assisting in closed fracture reduction techniques, splinting, casting, removing casts/splints, removing surgical drains, assisting with closed reduction of dislocations, and assisting with joint aspiration/injection, balanced skeletal traction set-up/adjustment.
