BP – Whiting, Indiana

Process 2 Portfolio – On-site Project Engineer: Responsibilities include supporting the project manager to ensure that projects are executed in conformance to the client’s expectation in terms of quality, cost and schedule. Activities include interfacing with the client, contractors, and additional groups as necessary to coordinate engineering and construction to meet the stated objectives of the project. This includes preparation of requests for project funding, technical coordination of design activities, preparation of work scopes and construction packages, engineering budgets and schedules, and coordination of procurement and construction activities. Specific projects include:

• T-303 Outage Mitigation Project: Worked on overseeing procurement activities.

• Alky P39 Pump Replacement

ConocoPhillips – Roxana, Illinois

Health and Safety Projects: Project Manager working on-site overseeing multi-million dollar projects that involve revamping for health and safety, air quality monitoring for the EPA and process improvement. Projects included replacement/relocation of barrel pumps, pump seal upgrades, replacement of steam turbines, vibration monitoring systems, MCC installation, bleach systems for water treatment, smart pigging, incinerator modifications for EPA compliance, tank construction and air quality monitoring systems.

Rockwood Pigments

New Soda Ash Delivery System: Project Manager responsible for assisting in the construction of this new delivery system that would allow them to implement a new process technology in their plant. Additionally helped to sound-proof the plant to remain within maximum decibel requirements for the community.

Versun Plants – Various Locations

Ethanol Plants: Project Engineer working on-site at various plants to assist with the preparation, startup and checkout of the ethanol plants. Responsibilities included Pre-Startup Safety Reviews, initial charging of vessels, quality control for owner, working with crafts to resolve punch list items and working with maintenance on the first plant shutdown/startup. Also responsible for overseeing the construction for fencing, roads, a security system and fluoride treatment facility.

Fagen – Granite Falls, Minnesota

Ethanol Plants: Project Engineer involved in construction of these plants. Responsibilities included quality assurance, walk down of drawings, material quantities, resolution of field issues, over-site of field engineering requests, preparation/award of bid packages, management of subcontractors, weekly reporting of site status and document control. Major construction included buildings, cooling tower, thermal oxidizer, distillation columns, evaporators, molecular sieves, tanks, truck scales, pumps, CEMS, centrifuges and dryers.

US Water Services – Cambridge, Minnesota

Water Treatment Systems in 14 Ethanol Plants: Start-up Engineer responsible for managing the middle-man relationship between the plant owner and the design/build firm during the plant construction and start-up. Responsibilities included overseeing the initial equipment and chemical orders, delivery to construction site and installation of equipment during construction, initial water chemistry during startup and training of laboratory personnel. The supervision of water treatment equipment installation (electrical, piping and civil) included reading/red-lining drawings and P&ID‘s. Typical installations and startups included sand or multi-media filters, water softeners, reverse osmosis, boiler and cooling water chemical feed systems. More extreme cases involved construction of clarifiers, gravity filters, sludge thickeners, filters presses or fluoride removal systems.

Nalco Chemical – Various Locations

Paper Mill: Application Engineer in a paper mill; assigned to trouble shoot pulp/paper and water treatment systems. Responsibilities included conducting lab tests for daily operation of the paper machines, testing for bacteria on a weekly basis, determining the efficiency of the pulp mill, maintaining inventory of 50+ chemicals for pulp, paper and water treatment processes. Participated in all equipment inspections during shutdowns, upgraded existing chemical feed systems and provided training for lab personnel.

Oversight of 5 Coal-Fired Power Plants: District Representative for 5 coal-fired power plants ranging in size from 100 MW to 700 MW. The water treatment systems varied depending on the operating pressure of the boiler; responsibilities included regular testing, reporting, training staff, inspecting equipment during shutdowns and trouble shooting. Conducted coal dust chemical suppression trails.

Two Six Sigma Projects: Application Engineer responsible for participating in two projects. The first project was for the reduction of chemical consumption and pre-treatment system upsets (cold lime softeners, gravity filters, and reverse osmosis). Identified improper operation of clarifier leading to chemical waste and clogging cooling tower lines during winter months. Worked with the plant to adjust chemistry in tower to prevent plant from having to de-rate and began training lab personnel on operation of clarifier. The second project focused on yellow metal displacement on turbine blades caused by chemistry upsets in boiler feed water.

Bryan Research and Engineering – Bryan, Texas

Software Sales for Oil and Gas Industry: Sales Representative responsible for the sale of software to the oil and gas refinery markets for sweeting and dehydration processes. Responsible for maintaining accounts, both existing and new, and providing training for software operation.

Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. (Pulp Mill Co-op) – Brewton, Alabama

Chemical Testing on Lime Mud Filters: Responsible for conducting a chemical trial on the lime mud filters to determine if there would be added benefit by adjusting chemistry. Trial was successful in reducing the amount of new lime from 84 trucks/mo. to 18 trucks/mo.

New Chlorine Dioxide Plant: Participated in the start-up of the plant by conducting chemical testing and monitoring of bleaching chemistry to obtain the required pulp quality.
