VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE
Co-Organizer 2002-2009
Steven & Lewis Promislow Youth Charity Golf Tournament
My brother Steven began organizing and running a youth charity golf tournament at the age of 12 to support the St. Boniface Hospital & Research Foundation, when I was 7. The goals of the tournament were to raise money for the Foundation, and just as importantly, get young people involved in the community and recognize the importance of helping others. I got involved after a few years and played a larger role with every passing year until, in 2006, the tournament officially became “The Steven & Lewis Promislow Youth Charity Golf Tournament”. In addition to co-running the tournament, I established and managed the tournament website. The charity golf tournament ran for eleven years and raised over $161,000 for the Foundation.
Skills:
-Through trying to accomplish and plan all the many details needed to ensure the tournament ran smoothly, I developed valuable organizational skills.
-As organizing the tournament began in the winter and I spent several months working on it each year, I have an understanding of the need for perseverance and a strong work ethic.
-Through speaking and communicating with numerous business managers and sports teams/athletes for sponsorships and donations, I have improved my confidence and ability to communicate with others, both orally and in writing.
-As the tournament was more or less a two-man operation, I have learned to take initiative to accomplish my goals, thusly developing my leadership skills.
-Since our youth charity golf tournament was unlike any other, we were constantly trying to find new and unique ways to increase donations to the Foundation each year, and as a result, my creativity continually grew and developed.
INTERESTS
Sports - Active in the hockey community, both as an avid Jets fan, as well as playing the game on multiple teams as part of a healthy and active lifestyle. I also enjoy playing golf in the summer and going to the gym to improve my fitness.
Travelling - I enjoy meeting new people and gaining experience to broaden my perspective.
Music – Local DJ (socials, previously at Whiskey Dix bar), Guitar player
