Human Resources Generalist for American of Martinsville Inc, producers of fine furniture serving the Hospitality industry, $150M in annual sales, located in Martinsville VA. Responsible for all HR functions including, local/state/federal compliance, recruitment & hiring, office administration, customer service and payroll administration across multiple sites.
Operations
Direct responsibility for leading a high level process development team focused on the Upholstery (seating) side of the business with the mission of developing and implementing a process that will facilitate very rapid growth.
Accomplishments include:
HR-Development and implementation of a “forward looking strategy” focused on cost containment of the company’s escalating Healthcare cost.
Operations-Efficiency of the upholstery operations increased such that our margins were consistently at or above 18%.

Vice President Human Resources and Safety-Casegoods Group 2002-2006
With the merger of La-Z-Boy Furniture Inc. and LADD Furniture, became Vice President HR Corporate Casegoods Group. HR responsibility for the newly aligned seven Casegoods brands with over $600 million in sales and approximately 4,000 employees. Position reported to the President of the Casegoods division. Brands included: Kincaid, American Drew, American of Martinsville, La-Z-Boy Youth, Hammary, Pennsylvania House and La-Z-Boy Global.
Counsel and advisor to the President of Casegoods and each brand presidents.
As a member of the Casegoods Division’s executive support staff, to help set the direction of the division and to lead all Human Resource-related initiatives.
Develop and administer the necessary programs, policies and procedures to allow La-Z-Boy Casegoods and other La-Z-Boy functional groups located in the Greensboro office to recruit, develop and retain effective employees.
Recruiting responsibility for all Executive positions.

Led the HR area in restructuring the Casegoods companies, including the shutdown of 5 factories and restructuring the corporate office.

Led the effort in the upgrading of the plant management leadership staff and was instrumental in the selection and hiring of two new company presidents.
Completed an extensive analysis of health insurance cost leading to a 17% reduction in overall medical cost.

Corporate Vice President Human Resources 1995-2002
Career change driven by significant opportunity. Corporate Human Resources responsible for seven LADD operating companies, LADD Transportation and the LADD Corporate office with over 6500 employees and annual sales exceeding $600 million. This position reported directly to the CEO.
Counsel and advisor to the CEO and Division Presidents.
Developed a strong recruiting program that strengthened the first-line management staff.
