Professional Experience
Textron Systems (AAI Corporation), Hunt Valley, Maryland 1992– 2015
Lead Software Engineer, Ground Control Technologies and ISR Systems 2010– 2015
Led software team in maintenance of ground control systems. Led team that corrected issues reported from the field and integrated systems on multiple platforms. Lead software on IR&D projects to integrate cell phone capabilities into Shadow UAS system and provide cohesive information to an Intelligence Analyst’s Station. Led the software effort on the Long Endurance Multi-Intelligence Vehicle (LEMV) project, responsible for developing STANAG-4586 compliant interfaces and databases to integrate the air vehicle with a Universal Ground Station (UGCS).
Lead Software Engineer – UAV Laser Designator/Range Finder Program 2006 – 2010
Developed technical specifications and integrated POP-300D EO/IR Laser Designator/Range Finder payload into the Shadow system, currently operational in Afghanistan. Managed a multi-cultural and geographically diverse team that included members in the United States, Canada and Israel. Designed and developed air vehicle datalink and payload software.
Team Member/Committee Chair – Software Engineering Process Group (SEPG) 1999-2007
Active member of the assessment teams for externally assessed SEI CMM Levels 3, 4 and 5. Developed, implemented and tracked project and organizational software process, including project development, metrics collection, and performance measurement. In my dual role as a Lead Software Engineer and a SEPG member, I provided mentoring and peer training to successfully integrate process improvements into active projects without effecting schedule or budget. As chair of the SEPG’s Tools and Technology Group, I wrote the charter, created and instituted tool selection processes, tool experiments, and roll-out.
Lead Software Engineer - Pioneer UAV Vehicle Specific Module (PiVSM) 2005–2006
Managed the software team that developed a STANAG 4586 compliant Pioneer Vehicle Specific Module and successfully integrated the Ground Control Station, Air Vehicle and POP-300 Payload.
Individual Contributor - POP-300 Payload Integration 2004-2005
Served as technical interface to both the Ground Control Station manufacturer in Canada and the Payload manufacturer in Israel. Improved the protocol and upgraded the air vehicle to the POP-300 payload. Utilized communication and language skills to support project activities.
Lead Software Engineer - Tactical UAV (TUAV) Flight Control Development 1998-2003
Led team that designed and developed a new autopilot box; an interface to the Tactical Common Data Link (TCDL); an airborne automatic landing system; and ground station and air vehicle simulators. Created a code generation database to translate between native AV and STANAG-4586 messages.
Area Lead – Joint Service Electronic Combat System Tester (JSECST) 1996-1998
Led the team that developed the Software Development Station (SDS).
Software Engineer – Simulator for Electronic Combat Training (SECT) 1992-1996
Implemented and integrated real time executive, combat environment and radar threat simulation.
MicroProse Games, Hunt Valley, Maryland 1991 – 1992
Senior Software Systems Engineer
Developed real time, three dimensional, multi-processor, graphics and special effects for arcade games.
Daedalean Associates Incorporated, Columbia, Maryland 1988 – 1991
Senior Software Systems Engineer
Lead Software Engineer on the Simulated Intermediate Automatic Test Equipment Maintenance Trainer System (SIATE-MTS) for the B-1b bomber aircraft.
Westinghouse Electric Company, Baltimore, Maryland 1984 – 1988
Software Systems Engineer
Worked on Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) projects. Developed a real time system to process and display radar data. Implemented real time fault detection and correction software.
