Working Experience-

1) COMPANY : City of Harare Emergency Services

Position : Fire – Fighter

Period : January 2000 – May 2004

Duties:

To ensure effective firefighting, rescue and special services.

Ensure operational efficiency and readiness of fire service vehicles, reporting faults to station commanders to make sure they are attended to and maintain records.

Inspection of all rescue equipment.

Operating all firefighting machinery thus turn able ladders, hudraulic platforms, foam tenders, foam making equipment, decontamination units and emergency tenders.

Daily inspection of all firefighting vehicles.

Attendance of prescribed group inspection on premises.

Driving fire appliances when responding to emergency calls.

Control room duties including dispatching of fire appliances and ambulances to emergency calls.

Repairing of fire hoses and recharging of breathing apparatus sets using compressors.

Provide professional assessment, immediate medical care, immobilisation and transportation of patients.

To check, test, use and maintain emergency medical apparatus.

Position : Sub Officer

Period : Nov 2006 – June 2009

Leading a team engaged in firefighting and actively participate in firefighting and emergency activities this includes issuing instructions, starting pumps, regulating pressures, and use of hose and extinguishers.

Participate in the regular drills in fire prevention and firefighting this includes briefing sub ordinates on emergency regulations and procedures and on the use and effectiveness of firefighting equipment and safety system.

Supervise daily maintenance and testing work of a variety of firefighting, safety and emergency equipment and complete various reports connected with maintenance work and present verbal reports on problems encountered.

Attends fire and other emergency incidents, assesses the situation, determines action to take and commands the on scene fire and safety personnel.

Assists in the preparation and conducting of fire training and safety lectures by arranging of equipment and fuel for fires.

Responsible for the safe and effective operations, maintenance and ensuring operational integrity of firefighting vehicles and equipment.

Supervises and directs the activities of a shift team of firefighters involved in firefighting, rescue, gas release control measures and medical emergencies.

Supervising practical and theoretical trainings including drills and evacuation procedures.

Supervising all testing, inspection and repair of all fire and life support equipment, breathing apparatus sets, portable fire extinguishers and the testing and maintenance of a range of fire fighting vehicles, systems and equipment ensuring 24/7 availability.

Maintaining all records associated with shift team and testing of firefighting equipment, extinguisher site replacement, shift manning and maintenance of life support equipment.

AIRPORT EXPERIENCE:

My previous station area covers two different airfields ranging in categories, and we used to do live and mock aircraft firefighting sceneallos as part of career development.

Duties:

Firefighting and emergency care

Responds to emergency care calls to protect life and property and fight fires, provides medical assistance and performs operations.

Performs fire and hazardous materials inspections of buildings and responds to accidents.

Oil and gas release control measures.

Carrying out a range of testing, inspection and general maintenance activities, associated with fire and life support.

Attending incidents of all types through out Gasco facility and residential camp this includes hydro carbon fires, gas leaks, Hazmat incidents (use of chemical suits).

Training breathing apparatus use to Gasco employees and contractors.

Carrying out inspections on site for firefighting equipment, (extinguisher, hydrants, deluge valves, dry resers, foam carts and foam monitors) record and report any detect or issues that are found.

Risk assessment to a required standard for all on site activities.

Record and report all accidents, incidents and rear misses and report accordingly.

Undertake job watch activities and standby with fire extinguishers during all permitted “hot work”, and undertake gas test when required, prior to authorizing commencement of work. Report any incidents of incorrect work practices or procedures differing from those detailed in the permit to work.

Other standby duties such as confined spaces, breathing apparatus use, and fuel, propane and nitrogen unloading.
