CHEMICAL ENGINEERING CO-OP, 2009 - 2011
DUKE ENERGY – CINCINNATI, OH
Selected into highly competitive program where only 3 chemical engineering students were admitted. Due to high level of performance, was subsequently invited to come back for 5 full-time co-op assignments. Performed a multitude of analytical work in coal power generation, wastewater treatment and EPA methodologies. Was consistently called upon to analyze and inform management with both written reports and group presentations.
The Company’s need to replace equipment led to a project working side-by-side with the Subject Matter Expert to overhaul an inadequate phase out plan. The research led to the discovery of an alternative plan that met government requirements and would save $1.5M. This plan was implemented in the Spring of 2012.
Due to new air pollution regulations impacting the company, I developed and gave a presentation to management of eight divisions explaining the ramification of the law which led to me to develop a quality process program that monitors daily performance to the new regularity standards which was adopted as an ongoing tool.
Faced with a large capital project totaling $3.9M, I oversaw a team of subcontractors replacing condenser tubes in coal generator power units. I made sure they completed the project to company standards on time and within budget.
Asked to join team in analyzing the catalyst purchases where I drafted purchase specifications for nearly $30M of catalyst, analyzed bids and oversaw the purchased of the first $4M for the company.
