Details of Courses:
Degree in History with Sport and Physical Education- This degree program was 3 years and split 50:50 between History and Sport and Physical Education. The history component looked at the very beginnings of sport and how it shaped and influenced society from c2000bc to current times. It encouraged the skill of academic research at level three studies. The Sport and Physical Education component was a practical and academic course looking at various training principles, sport coaching techniques, human biology and biomechanics. A high level of physical fitness was required and it also increased my knowledge of how the human body works. The course encouraged the use of team work; it also built my confidence in public speaking. It was necessary to become proficient with IT and computing skills to produce well researched and high quality pieces of work.
Dip He, Nursing Studies (Adult Branch) - Diploma in Nursing Studies- This intensive course covered general nursing and gave me a thorough understanding of nursing practices and principles. It encouraged students to question traditional nursing methods, which helped me appreciate a much wider understanding of nursing in general, and provided me with greater confidence in forming nurse/patient relationships. Main areas of study were; sociology, psychology, communication skills, researched - based practice and holistic patient care. Main nursing areas covered were; surgical, acute medical, intensive care, orthopaedic, emergency and community.
HSE Approved Offshore Medics Course: - this course has prepared me to work in the Offshore/Remote Area Oil and Gas Industry. Emphasis was placed on Trauma and Primary Care, but also good record keeping, understanding the sphere of practice, administration skills.
Medicine in Remote Areas (MIRA):- this course included advanced nursing/medic skills to provide the best quality health care in areas without definitive health care. Course is ratified by the Royal College of Surgeons.

I currently work in different clinical settings, particularly ITU, Accident and Emergency and acute surgical wards, such as the Surgical Assessment Unit, to keep my acute surgical/medical assessment skills up to date. It also enables me keep up to date with essential practical skills relevant with current practice guidelines.
Site Medic (International SOS) 11-15 to Present
I am currently employed by International SOS as the site medic at the Theddlethorpe Gas Terminal, operated by ConocoPhillips. I manage all aspects of the medical centre, and provide health care for the site employees. This includes all aspects of primary care, ranging from the diagnosis treatment of minor illness and injury, first aid, and advanced trauma care if needed. I also perform well person medicals, and offer health care advice and recommendations. Other duties include first aid training with various departments of the facility, stock control and equipment maintenance.
Offshore Medic (Daya Group) 09-13 to 09-15
I was directly employed by Daya Offshore Construction and was deployed on the new Offshore Construction Vessel the Siem Daya 1. The opportunity enabled me to assist the company in setting up the sickbay into an efficient and well organised treatment room. From there, I managed all aspects of health care as necessary, using our appointed Top Side support as required and following the medics’ standing orders as reference to my clinical scope. I was responsible for all aspects of medication stock control, actively seeking to secure cost effective ordering by liaising with different suppliers. The sickbay was subject to high praise by Statoil Auditors.
Other duties include various administration tasks, crew registration on the ShipAdmin system, project crew inductions. Also, I was heavily involved in first aid training with first aid team and vessel crew, weekly hygiene inspections, health promotion for the crew, daily water testing and assisting with any other duties/tasks that are required by the Captain or Offshore Manger. I assisted the marine crew and project staff with HSE matters, involving being active in safety meetings and the closing out of observation cards by following up actions and recommendations. The vessel worked in areas such as Canada, Norway, Denmark and Nigeria. Working in a wide variety of areas helped me gain good knowledge of legislation and protocols, aiding the speed of the `port clearance` of the vessel.
Offshore Medic (Anglo-Eastern) 06-13 to 09-13
I was deployed Seven Seas pipe layer operating in Singapore and Brazilian waters. My duties included, managing the sick bay and delivering all aspects of care to the crew. These include primary care, first aid, if needed advance trauma management and medical care. Managing the sick bay included stock ordering, various administration tasks.
I performed all aspect of first aid training with the first aid team and the general crew. I conducted weekly hygiene inspections and portable water testing.
Offshore Medic (ISOS) 04-05-2013
I was deployed on the Polarcus Naila Seismic Survey Vessel operating in Suriname, South America. My duties include, providing all levels of care to the crew, ranging from Primary Care to trauma and occupational health care. I managed the hospital clinic, controlling equipment and stock. I assisted the master and Party Chief with various duties, including hygiene inspections and various other tasks.
Offshore Medic (Lowland International) 12-2011 to 03-2013
I was deployed on the Seven Navica Pipe laying vessel operating in UK and Norwegian Waters. My duties included, performing consultations to the crew, first aid treatment, and trauma treatment if necessary. Maintaining the hospital and equipment. Ordering stock medicines and equipment. I carried out ship inductions. First aid training is carried out with me and the first aid team and emergency response team leaders.
I was also responsible for water testing on board. I performed various administration duties and extra duties upon request. I carried out weekly hygiene inspections with the relevant parties and assisted the Vessel Master and Offshore Manager as required. I was actively involved in health promotion onboard, offering advice and giving presentations to the crew.
Using Synergi, I was actively involved in putting observation cards and assisting in the actioning of the cards.
Offshore Medic (Agency) 2009 – Present
My duties included preparing and running the sickbay and being responsible for the health and welfare of the offshore workforce. Chlorine water testing, general stock ordering and various administration duties were also included. My other responsibilities were checking the serviceability of the emergency equipment located on the Rig and the running of the first aid team. I was also involved in the audit of emergency drills and the response of the associated emergency teams.
Offshore Medic (ISOS/Abermed) 05-2011 to 11-2011
I was employed as the Medic on the Ocean Rig Corcovado 6th generation drill ship. The vessel operated in Greenland for the duration of the project. My duties involved performing general medical consultations and health advice, health promotion for all of the crew on board. I was responsible for the daily and weekly checking of the medical and rescue equipment on board, maintaining the sickbay to an exceptional standard of hygiene and cleanliness. I ordered general medical stock and equipment for the clinic. I assisted with helicopter administration and general indoor safety inductions. I was actively involved in first aid training with the first aid team; I compiled the training program and issue appropriate guidance and information. I also keep my clinical knowledge up to date with a program of personal study.

The Intensive Care Unit is an 8 bedded general ICU that takes patients needing high dependency and intensive care. The unit takes patients from all medical disciplines including surgical, neruo, and major trauma. Treatments offered are renal replacement therapy, advanced Cardio-Vascular support, advanced respiratory support. The unit has an excellent teamwork approach and by liaising with all members of the multi-disciplinary team ensures for safe and effective care of patients.
I was nominated by a patient for MBHT`s Staff Achievement awards – “The Pride of the Bay” as a patients champion.

The Intensive Care was a 28 bedded multi disciplinary unit. Specialties covered where, Cardio-thoracic, Neuro, Surgical, Medical, Trauma and Burns. The unit was the major speciality centre in Western Australia. As a registered nurse my duties were to take call of all kinds of ICU patients on the unit. I was also required to transfer patients to other departments and hospitals safely. Working in such a large unit developed my self confidence and greatly developed my clinical competence and knowledge.
