Conduct thorough and detail oriented investigation of claims in order to determine compensability, liability, coverage, and other issues that may arise
Authorize necessary course of treatment, serve as main point of contact for the insureds, claimants, health care providers, insurance agents, etc. Set appropriate reserves and adjust them as the claim develops
Negotiate settlements directly with petitioner’s attorney
Select appropriate counsel to defend the interests of the insured when necessary and strategize with attorney to effectively adjudicate more complex claims in light of formal hearings
Additional responsibilities include coordinating with various vendors to set up independent medical evaluations (IME), utilization reviews (UR), surveillance, adjudication, etc
Recommend settlement proposals. Prepare written reports requesting settlement authority from the district’s various pool members or the board of a self-insured trust
Adjudicate claims for a surety bond issued to school district treasurers. Tasks include making coverage determination, setting appropriate reserves, asserting lien rights, analyzing forensic audit reports, and monitoring any criminal proceedings

Underwrote and managed two programs with a combined annual premium of $3 million
Managed student accident program that provides insurance coverage to approximately 200,000 Illinois school children
Developed and edited all relevant advertising materials disseminated to students’ parents and school districts
Analyzed and compiled claim data and demographics to develop trends for the annual submission to London reinsurance underwriters and assist in the renewal of the program
Underwrote a surety bond facility issuing Lloyd’s of London surety bonds to Illinois school district treasurers. Analyzed the acceptability of the risk based on numerous factors, including amount of money treasurer handles, background information of the treasurer, and the internal financial controls of the district
Created new underwriting guidelines which also examined the management letter issued by the district’s independent auditor and examined the entire audit if warranted
Compiled and analyzed all relevant data to submit to London brokers for the placement of the surety bond business in the London reinsurance market
