Until the merger with Scottsdale Healthcare, I served as Director of Human Resources at John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital (renamed HonorHealth). Since leaving John C. Lincoln I have enjoyed rewarding travel and a focus on the elder care needs of my parents. I am now fully available to provide my leadership abilities to a new organization.

Director of Human Resources, North Mountain Hospital
A non-profit, 260-bed, Level 1 Trauma Center and award winning Magnet facility (one of the highest levels of distinction in healthcare). The Network also provides extensive community outreach services through the Desert Mission programs. Responsibilities included providing action-oriented leadership in the management, planning, development and implementation of innovative programs and strategies that focus on the value of employees in all areas of HR. A primary consult to senior managers ensuring proactive and legally sound practices/policies and serving as a resource to all 2,200 management and staff in a manner that nurtured a very positive working environment, even during the most turbulent times of change.
Earned the reputation as the “go-to person” hospital-wide for human resources issues and in resolving conflicts where significant liabilities were concerned.
Served on two successful Magnet accreditation reviews presenting our innovative HR policies, practices and data to outside Magnet reviewers/auditors.
Championed continuous improvement efforts through implementation of Lean Management and Daily Management System (DMS). Participated in daily meetings with the CEO, Chief Nursing Officer, VP of Clinical Affairs, VP of Quality, and Chief Medical Officer, which resulted in dramatic enhancements in communication and process improvement throughout the hospital.
Through strategic planning and enhanced talent acquisition efforts, eliminated the use of nursing registry (temporary) and traveling nurses, resulting in annual savings of $1M. Hired 50 full-time nurses in 40 working days. Both receiving recognition from the Board of Trustees.
Orchestrated a series of hospital-wide, departmental reorganizations in a manner that maintained high employee engagement and minimized turnover.
Partnered with select departmental directors to improve employee engagement through development of comprehensive action plans that addressed communication, recognition, performance, training and management effectiveness resulting in a significant overall improvement in engagement scores.
Supported operational effectiveness and staff morale during implementation of Electronic Medical Records system by augmenting staffing levels as needed and ensuring thorough communication with staff and patients.

Human Resources Consultant assigned full time on-site to TriWest Healthcare Alliance
At this time TriWest Healthcare Alliance provided access to quality healthcare for the Nation’s military families under a $10 billion Department of Defense contract. TriWest employed over 1,700 individuals and their workforce was comprised of physician medical directors, nurses, technical crews and customer service call center representatives. HR consulting services focused on compensation and incentive plan programs, PeopleSoft HRS update/conversion and employment/staffing activities.
National Imaging Associates (NIA), Phoenix, Arizona (February 2005 – February 2006)
Assistant Vice President for Human Resources (One-year appointment by design to position NIA for sale)
Nation’s leader in radiology medical management dedicated to improving the quality of patient care through the clinically appropriate and economic use of diagnostic imaging. The company was in a remarkable growth mode contracting with healthcare plans in over 30 states and expanding exponentially. The company employed over 600 individuals in a predominately call center environment and was purchased by Magellan Health Services in February of 2006. Responsibilities included strategic development and implementation of corporate programs to effectively support the overall multi-state (including California) human resources function. Activities had special emphasis on staffing for growth and expansion, including succession planning, management selection, training, policy development/execution as well as the enhancement of employee compensation and benefit packages.

The Vanguard Group is a mutual fund and financial services company with 115 mutual funds, 800 billion dollars in assets and 1,400 employees. HR operational consulting services were to all levels of management focusing on employment expansion/staffing, resulting in the hiring of over 300 new Associates within six months, the most successful talent acquisition project in company history.

The first institution of higher education west of the Mississippi; a private Catholic Jesuit University employing over 6,000 staff and 2,200 faculty dedicated to providing excellence in teaching, research, healthcare and community service. The University Hospital is a 360-bed Level 1 trauma facility and the University Medical Group known as “SLUCare”, is a 350-physician faculty practice plan with 14 clinical departments generating in excess of $200M annually in a demanding hospital/medical faculty practice environment. Responsibilities included being the key advisor to senior executives, management, staff and faculty regarding Human Resources matters. Directed staffing, recruitment, executive searches, employee relations, labor relations, policy development, compensation and training programs. Advised on benefit plan design.
Considered institution-wide expert in human resources matters, problem resolution and risk mitigation.
During a highly controversial acquisition of the University Hospital by a non-Catholic, for-profit company, was appointed to the Hospital Transition Team (pre and post-sale) to ensure integration of H.R. strategies and systems.
Served as a member and advisor to the Student Judicial Board which adjudicated serious conduct matters for our 13,000 students. (This was a rare appointment and honor for an administrator.)
Responsible for three separate collective bargaining agreements including contract interpretation, grievance processing, and coordination of collective bargaining sessions. Established extremely positive relations with union members and conducted all contract negotiations, mediations and arbitrations without conflict.
Created and directed University/Hospital-wide in-house temporary staffing service employing over 100 staff members and saving over $600,000 in outside staffing agency fees annually. This service was consistently recognized by the University’s Board of Trustees for its proactive approach to recruitment and cost savings.
Coordinated and served on Vice President, Academic Dean and Management search committees. Work included high profile searches involving participation from Board of Trustee members and celebrities.
