Objective

To obtain a position in Phlebotomy that allows me to utilize my training and aptitude in the medical field. Ideally, I would like to join an organization that promotes/supports continuing education and professional development. I am trained in first aid and CPR, until November, 2016.

Qualifications

Venipuncture procedure: (equipment, selection, use, proper technique), order of draw, patient approach, patients’ rights, specimen collection, proper handling and labeling. Capillary puncture procedure, (on infants and adults; technique, equipment, proper labeling). I focused a lot on specimen labeling and Phlebotomists Safety, Asepsis, Terminology, OSHA Exposure Control Plan, OSHA Blood Bourne Pathogen Standards, Anatomy, Hematology, and HIPPA Laws and Regulations. In the Advanced Program I learned a lot on the lines of multiple blood sample collection. Evacuated Blood collection transfer devices, butterfly needles, and drawing blood using a syringe. Equipment, proper order of draw and correlation between blood collection tubes and tests, the color code, anticoagulants and their mode of action. Proper specimen handling including specimens requiring special handling, blood sample collection for special tests (legal and timed tests; Blood Cultures, determination of bleeding time using Surgicutt to test platelets). Centrifugation of blood, syringe techniques, when used alone or in combinations with other blood collection devices. Peripheral Blood Smears, Cardio-Vascular System, Anatomy of Blood, and the Common Pathway of Blood.

Relevant Experience

During schooling, I’ve had 30 hours of hands on in classroom training, plus 40 hours of Clinical Practice training in The Basic Program. I did my clinical training at UPMC- St. Margarets Hospital, in New Kensington, PA, from August 10-August 13, 2009. In the Advanced Program, I’ve had 30 hours of hand on in classroom training, plus 72 hours of Clinical Practice training. I did my clinical training at Allegheny General Hospital, in Pittsburgh, PA, from October 5- October 9, 2009; then back at St. Margaret’s Hospital from October 12- October 15, 2009. A total of 104 hours of Clinical Practice in a hospital setting, and 60 hours of hands on in classroom training.

From January 2010- February 2011, I worked as a mobile Phlebotomist/Para-medical Examiner/ Independent Contractor for Exam One a Quest Diagnostics Subsidiary. I mainly worked from home, on my own. Setting up appointments, printing out proper paperwork, using own centrifuge to spin collected blood samples and transferring serum into separate tubes from the serum separator tubes, also packaging paperwork and collected blood and urine samples and shipping them via FedEx to the lab. Did mini para-medical exams including vitals and medical questionnaires and observations. I was set out on a lot of re-draws to collect blood samples from difficult clients.
