QUALIFICATION and COMPETENCIES

• Research & Development • Engineering

• Production & Manufacturing • Aeronautical Design

• Logistics • Planning and Organization

• Maintenance and Repair • Technical Computing

• CAD Software • Visual and Design Programming

EDUCATION and TRAINING

UNIVERSITY OF BOLOGNA, SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING, FORLI, ITALY The University of Bologna is also known as “Alma Mater Studiorum”, Latin for “Nourishing Mother of the Studies”. The University, founded in 1088, is the oldest continuously operating university in the world. MASTER OF AEROSPACE ENGINEERING, Honors Graduate, 2014 UNIVIERSITY OF BOLOGNA, SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING, FORLI, ITALY BACHELOR OF AEROSPACE ENGINEERING, 2011

AERODYNAMICS LABORATORY, UNIVERSITY OF BOLOGNA, FORLI, ITALY 9/2013-7/2014

INTERNSHIP

Designed and analyzed the effect of spatial resolution on estimated dissipation as measured by anemometers.

The components of this study will be fed into experiments employing the University’s CICLoPE (Centre for International Cooperation in Long Pipe Experiments) laboratory. CICLoPE is part of the EuHIT consortium (European High-Performance Infrastructures in Turbulence), composed of 25 research institutes and two industrial partners aiming to integrate cutting-edge European facilities for turbulence research.

• Performed duties as designer, data analyst, tester, and laboratory technician.

• Constructed and tested double and single-wire anemometers.

• Operated data sets derived from the anemometer tests using a LabVIEW program I created (with the help of a tutor).

• Developed and employed a MATLAB program to analyze the effect of spatial resolution on the estimated dissipation measurements.

LABORATORY OF FLIGHT MECHANICS, UNIVERSITY OF BOLOGNA, FORLI, ITALY 9/2010–3/2011

INTERNSHIP

Designed, developed, and tested electronic communication case to be used by an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). The research focus of the University’s Laboratory of Flight Mechanics (Laboratorio di Meccanica del Volo, or MDV) is on innovative solutions to automatically control aircraft. The work I performed was to realize a case that provide all the communications between an unmanned vehicle monitoring volcanic activity in Italy and the vehicle’s pilot.

• Performed duties as designer, data analyst, tester, and laboratory technician.

• Developed a 3D design for a case to house electronic communication equipment.

• Developed a prototype case and tested it in real conditions. Employed the 3D CAD SOLIDWORKS program in conducting this research.

DISSERTATIONS

DISSERTATION FOR MASTER’S DEGREE, 2014

“SPATIAL RESOLUTION EFFECTS FOR THE ESTIMATION OF DISSIPATION BY A HOT-WIRE SENSOR”

DISSERTATION FOR BACHELOR’S DEGREE, 2011

“CASE DESIGN FOR A RADIO SYSTEM FOR SELF-ALIGNMENT OF AN UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLE (UAV)”

PROJECT AWARD

AWARDED SPINNER 2013 GLOBAL GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF 50,000 EUROS The Global Grant Spinner 2013 Competition awarded a limited number of grants for “ interventions for the qualification of human resources in the field of research and technological innovation.” The award is made to encourage the development of “projects based upon innovative business ideas and/or with high knowledge content, industrial research, experimental development, technology transfer and on organizational, managerial and financial innovation paths”. • A colleague (fellow student) and I developed, prepared, and presented a proposal to the Evaluation Committee. The proposal was accepted and we were then awarded 50,000 Euros to take our idea forward.

• Our proposal was to create an electronic device that alerts a parachuter or skydiver if other entities are encroaching, or are about to encroach, into the trajectory he/she is maintaining. The goal of the alert system is to minimize the chance of a collision, which, in some cases, could result in a fatality.

• Using the funds received, we built a prototype and performed a number of tests. The tests consisted of me parachuting from a plane with the device and the ability to control some parameters during the fall.

• The tests proved initially successful and led to the hiring of intellectual property (IP), patent, marketing, and economic consultants to secure the IP and explore production and distribution alternatives. We also worked in partnership with Turbolenza, a sky-diving concern, which lent us the use of their airport.

• Ultimately, we were unable to sustain interest in the product and it was not produced commercially.
