Long-term assignment in Mongolia studying culture and language then providing community development projects to aid church planting efforts. Acquired installed and commissioned a Kohler 40KW backup diesel generator and ASCO Automatic Transfer Switch. Developed and proposed a rangeland management research project to governor of Mongolian Kazakh state, designed base of operations buildings and oversaw initial construction. Conceived and developed a manufacturing business in eastern Mongolia to provide needed jobs (see System Innovations, Ltd. above). Electrical Engineer September 1994 to December 1996 Full-time employment during seminary: Responsible for design of all LCD and LCD electronic controls test equipment and fixtures. Also identified, conceived, proposed, designed, and built microprocessor-based production test fixtures, including manual milling machine fabrication, to simplify and improve testing reliability. Built and programmed small automated PLC-based LCD production machine to ship to China: ladder logic programming, construction, debug, with HV electrostatic power supply control, stepper motor control programming, rotary encoder, air cylinders, limit switches. Other responsibilities included AutoCAD bezel and fixture design, tolerance stack-up, competitor electronic product reverse engineering (milling into silicone layers to I.D. unlabeled ICs), Microsoft Access engineering change order management, and customer tech support. Functioned as manufacturing and test engineer as a co-op student. For Senior Design project, converted a batch chemical mixing door foamer process from push-button manual/relay control to fully-automatic control using TI single board computer (Pascal programming) with load cell feedback and Opto-22 I/O modules. Independent and hands-on start to finish removal of old equipment and design and construction of new cabinet, internal I/O panel, wiring, and front control panel. Planned and performed overnight installation for zero production down-time. System made good batches immediately with baby-sitting then with online tweaking was in production ahead of schedule. Designed and oversaw construction of hydraulic R&D test fixture for refrigerator ice-maker valves.
