Experience
Quimipac, Engineer Intern 06/2013-08/2013
I had the privilege to work in Quito, Ecuador for a chemical company called Quimipac. They specialize in corrosion inhibitors for the petroleum industry in South America. I shadowed and helped a team of senior chemical engineers working on current contracts in the oil field. I spent a total of two weeks in the field, helping the technicians collect data from injection sites and met with clients to discuss contracts and review bids. The experience allowed me to see firsthand the contrast in government run oil companies and that of private international corporations such like Agip, Repsol, Petro Ecuador and Petro Amazonas. The time spent in the field gave me great insight into the challenges of operating in remote regions and how to conducted large-scale operations through sustainability and safety.
Helmerich and Payne IDC, Marketing Intern 06/2012-08/2012 My first internship I worked for the largest United Stated on shore drilling company, Helmerich and Payne as a marketing intern in their Houston offices. I was given the responsibility to submit international tenders for prospective work overseas for companies such as Kuwait Oil Company and Marathon Oil. I also was closely involved with the submission of a joint venture with Halliburton working closely with their Mexican division to find adequate solutions for the region being drilled. The other tasks I carried out were tours of the “Rig-Up Yard” where interns of H&P’s clients such as Conoco Philips and Chevron, would be shown the parts and final construction of the Flex Rig fleet. By explaining each component of the rig throughout each tour and answering questions from various divisions of study, I continued to enhance my confidence with the engineering aspects of the rig design and functionality.
Education
Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland
September 2012 – June 2015
BEng – Mechanical Engineering with honors of the second class. Fully accredited IMechE. This covers broad range of Mathematics, Physics, and Technology in the early years allowing me to specialize in later years in engineering mechanics.
With a specific interest in Energy my subjects consist of:
• Petroleum Engineering
• Thermodynamics
• Fluid Dynamics
• Energy Studies
• Strengths of Materials
• Dynamics.
I was awarded the prize for best dissertation presentation of the Mechanical Engineering class 2015. A presentation lasting fifteen minutes with ten minute questions, I delivered a brief and in depth explanation to my dissertation manufacturing and research to the head of the mechanical engineering faculty. Project work throughout my university career:
• My dissertation title is "Investigation of heat pipe technology – rig extensions," where I designed and constructed a heat pipe test rig to test the thermal conductivity of a heat pipe. I applied knowledge of heat transfer and fluid dynamics to design and simulate this heat rig.
• A design and manufacture project for a small wearable unit for monitoring of movement demands in indoor sports. The project aim is to design and develop small wearable unit for monitoring of movement demands in indoor sports. Working in a group of four, we met regularly with our customer and developed a prototype to the customer’s needs.
• In my 3rd year of studies, I worked in a group for a fluid dynamics module to design a wind turbine for the North Sea of Scotland. I also had a business project that year which looked at wool installation for housing. I learned about industry economics, sustainability and safety. Key Technology Skills:
• Matlab
• Computer-aided Design Software (Auto CAD)
• Finite Element Analysis Software (ABAQUS)
• Comprehensive knowledge of all Microsoft packages Kilgraston School, Perthshire, Scotland
