I showed examples of using kNN on the MNIST data set from sklearn, in order to tried and classify hand written digits. We broke the data into 3 sets, a train set, a test set and a validation set. Recalled, when trying to tune a model, used the validation set to tune our performance (e.g. while tried different values for k, or tried to tune other model parameters). Found a good value for k, and tried and improved the kNN performance as much as possible on the MNIST digit classification. In addition to searching for good k neighbor parameters, also tried of using uniform vs. distance weighting, also tried changing the p parameter to see if different methods of measuring similarity or distance have any effect. Read and use Monte Carlo Simulation in calculating the probabilities.

Project: A back-propagated neural network is used in the classification of breast cancer diagnosis. The classification uses nine real data features from a fine needle aspiration (FNA) of a breast mass to distinguish between malignant or benign tumors. The goal of this project was to find the most accurate classification of the fine needle aspiration (FNA) dataset using the back-propagation neural network. Variations to the backpropagation neural network include changing the learning rate, momentum, and the number of hidden layer neurons. By running these variations on the neural network, a 94.5% accuracy in prediction of breast masses as malignant or benign is obtained. The dataset that was used in this analysis was obtained from University of California Irvine Machine Learning Repository. All calculation and probabilities were made by Python.
