Supervisor of System Operations, Energy Control Center – NERC Certified Reliability Coordinator

Responsible for overseeing the operation of the transmission and distribution electrical system grid in the Energy Control Center

Job Duties:

Responsible for overseeing Transmission & Distribution System Operators and Reliability of the Bulk Electric System using various levels of SmartGrid Technologies

Assisted in NERC & ERCOT required CIP compliance audits performed by TRE

Interpret, explain, and enforce city practice, policy, and procedure. Assist in development and implementation of system operating procedures.

Review and prepare daily, weekly, monthly, & and system event activity reports.

Coordinate division/section activities with other division/sections/utilities. Resolve division/section conflicts with other division/sections.

Responsible to maintain working knowledge of the Emergency Action Plans including the Blackstart Plan, Load Shedding Procedures and Incident Command activation.

Operated the transmission and distribution electrical system utilizing the Supervisor Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system by operating automated transmission and distribution breakers and other system devices. I worked with the Harris system from 1993 to 2003, and the Ranger system from 2003 to present.

Monitor voltage, amperage, circuit stability, and loading on auto transformers, distribution transformers, transmission circuits, distribution circuits, and made adjustments through SCADA system or directed field crews or plant operators to make adjustments on site.

Perform major system disturbance restoration (Thunderstorms, Windstorms, Ice storms, etc.) by utilizing Trouble Call/Outage Analysis system to prioritize response to trouble calls; analyzed circuit configuration in automated mapping system and system mapboard to ensure field crew safety; radio dispatched repair crews and tracked all field crew locations.

Perform engineering calculations to figure demand and loading percentages of electrical conductors and devices for switching of Transmission and Distribution system; operated and maintained automated system mapping program to perform switching operations; determined and executed switching operations by directing field crews to open and/or close various electrical devises (breakers, air switches, disconnects, jumpers, cut outs, etc.) on the transmission and distribution system.

Key accomplishments:

Lead Austin Energy’s part of the ERCOT wide Loadshed System Event on February 2011. Even though Austin Energy wasn’t prepared for the magnitude of the event, I was able to run figures by HAND keeping Austin Energy compliant with magnitude of load we needed to shed.

Served as OMS/ADMS SME (Subject Matter Expert) in researching, choosing, testing in F.A.T. & S.A.T., implementation, training of operators, Go-Live, as well as post Go-Live support of Austin Energy’s new Telvent ADMS system

Served as OMS/ADMS SME (Subject Matter Expert) in researching, choosing, testing in F.A.T. & S.A.T., implementation, training of operators, Go-Live, as well as post Go-Live support of Austin Energy’s new PowerOn OMS system
