EXPERIENCE:
January 2003 - Present
Independent Software Developer
I have extensive experience with programming languages including Microsoft Access and Visual Basic for Applications. I also have experience using SQL Server databases in conjunction with Microsoft Access applications. I am continuing to expand my professional skills with training courses in the use of web development tools such as HTML, CSS and Microsoft Visual Studio.NET to create database applications.
During my career as a software developer, I have worked with many different kinds of businesses in various industries. The experience of designing dependable customized software to meet demanding client specifications has given me the opportunity to become familiar with all phases of the software development lifecycle. I have worked closely with clients creating design specifications, developing database systems, creating user and technical documentation, training program users, and providing technical support. Some of these applications have required importing and processing data from various file formats into new and existing database applications. I also have extensive experience working with large data sets to analyze trends and develop user and management reports which provide clients with the necessary program information to make informed business decisions.
For the past several years I have been engaged as an independent contractor by a local software company developing custom database software primarily used in the insurance industry. These programs are used by insurance companies for a wide range of functions. The programs include database applications used to calculate insurance policy rating information and produce policy documentation. Other applications are used to calculate and report state and local taxes collected through insurance policy sales, as well as systems created to process insurance policy billing data. All of these applications require operations to process large amounts of data collected both internally and via the internet (from SQL Server databases).
