Working directly with the CEO, I physically helped with the re-organized their manufacturing area which included molding, secondary operations, and storage and inventory, improving flow and efficiencies. The second phase and third phase was establishing and developing new tooling for existing and new products lines.

CH / APEM Joy Stick manufacturing firm in Vista Ca. Dec. 2011 to June 2013

Working directly with the CEO in identifying cost savings for their molding and tooling areas in the facility. Molding of Joy stick application assemblies / accessories (industrial, defence, medium to large) was improved by additional equipment installed for safety, flow and efficiencies. Phase two and and three involved improvement of the tool room and creating a new small facility for the Mexico molding division, but CH decided to postpone to a later date. Total work time there was eight months of reorganization working with management, engineering, and tool design.

OrthoOrganizers (Henry Schein) Orthodontics manufacturing, Vista, Ca. March-August 2010

Working with the VP of operations and the head of Engineering, I helped develop a new elastomeric multi-cavity molding tool for a new product line, which also improved production cycle times. In the second phase of the contract I evaluated and re-organized their molding department to improve manufacturing flow this included the installation of a larger shot size molding machine for improving capacity.

OtisMed Orthotics in Oakland - Consulting for manufacturing - July 2009 to August 2011

Worked directly with the CEO and director operations on a cost savings initiative. Improved the knee product line by analyzing and making changes by improving the technology and lowering the existing manufacturing cost from start to finish. New tooling was built, material remained the same, the molding process was moved to a new supplier. The cost savings to the company was estimated to be over half a million dollars. Stryker corporation bought the company six months later and is currently utilizing the new tooling. I did the initial hands on tool design and molding qualifications.

DJO Global – Orthopedic Manufacturer, Manager 2001 - 2009

Managed manufacturing of plastic and metals components, then corporate tooling, supported R&D, Mexico operations, manufacturing. JD Edwards ERP / Kanban lean manufacturing systems, incorporating new materials and technologies for cost improvement programs. Visual factory management.

Hands on manager overseeing manufacturing operations which included precision CNC machining, stamping, laser cutting, injection molding, tool design and fabrication. Multiple cavitation to single cavitation, variety of plastic resins.

Part of the management team that incorporated lean principles into DJO who received multiple awards in Best Plants, Shingo Prize, AME Manufacturing Excellcence.

Hands on engineer for the Ball R&D department focusing on new technology.

Re-organized and optimized the entire shop for efficiency with special processing required for golf ball fabrication, multiple cavitation, cold runners and testing.

Researched, coordinated and managed the procurement and installation of all specialized equipment for existing and future ball fabrication.

Implemented new tooling for old generation product line in record time, resulting in a revived product, and a cost savings of more than $500K for the company.

Team member of a new product that designed, fabricated and implemented an in-line oxygen patient monitor passing the 510K certification in a record nine months.

Developed an alternative fabrication technology LIM (Liquid injection molding) for existing product line, optimizing production by 50%. Re-engineered smooth bore silicone tubing.

Developed a new process for molding and bonding a silicone ventilator diaphragm to metal, increasing the yield 52%. Patent pending.

Inproved product processing for major product line, as part of a cost improvement project for the sleep apnea product line, new material, tooling and processing. From hundreds to thousands per week. Increased yield wasn’t determined before I left the company.
