Working Experiences

2015.05 – Now Intern (Database Administrator). Working as MS SQL Server DBA at SCDHHS (South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services) ITS (Information Technology Service) Division. Mainly working on MS SQL Server 2012 in failover clustering production environment as well as virtual environments. Partial job is based on MySQL. Main job responsibility includes:

1)Deploy SQL Server in both test and production environments, including installation and configuration of SQL Server, Failover Cluster on Windows Server 2012R2, deployment of data and log files and management of the storage;

2)Work collaboratively with other contractors to deploy projects from test server to production server;

3)Upgrade Service packs: make upgrade plans before installing the service packs and patches. Check the storage space and the compatibility of new releases of Service Pack to ensure the availability and integrity of the database;

4)Backup management: Create maintenance plans with SSMS using Management and Agent Job components; Customize backup strategies for different databases according to different characteristic and requirements of the databases as well as the requirements of the recovery speed; Configure database mails to notify operators in case that the execution of backup fails. Remove old backup files periodically;

5)Create SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) packages using SSMS(SQL Server Management Studio) and Visual Studio 2013 to insert the data got from FTP to our database;

6)Access control: Setting up logins and users; Assigning appropriate roles and permissions to corresponding users following organization security policy to ensure data security;

7)Documentation some technical and configuration files.

8)Also involved in Web Administration: Configure and maintain CMS(Content Management System) Drupal 7 including the front-end web development and back-end MySQL database maintenance using both PHPMyAdmin and MySQL Workbench. Setting up the PHP/MySQL/XAMPP environment on Windows Server. Experienced with Turnkey Linux. Familiar with LAMP (Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP) web frame.
