To Whom it May Concern:
I wish to apply for the position of Entry Level Insurance Sales Representative within your North Carolina office. I believe that my talents relate well to the specific tasks that accompany this interaction with clients in connecting them to the services that they request. I know that my interpersonal skills would be an asset to the company while directly interacting with consumers, as well as possessing the personal characteristics that are preferred from an individual within this line of work.
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a concentration in public policy from Western Michigan University. The skills I have gained through my years at Western Michigan are invaluable. I have become a well-rounded individual and have gained the leadership qualities that are needed to be successful within this job description.
During my senior year at Western Michigan University, I interned for the Honorable Brad Jacobsen of the Michigan House of Representatives. Working within the political system in Lansing has given me insight into how state policies are created and managed. My understanding of the legislative process has given me an upper-hand in quickly learning public processes, as in this case, state insurance licensing. It also gave me the opportunity to interact and assist constituents within a house district if they have an issue that needed to be resolved. This internship allowed me to strengthen my customer service skills, which directly translates to the position that I am applying for.
Most recently, I was an armed security officer at an Air National Guard Base in Battle Creek, Michigan. My customer service skills and multi-tasking skills were further strengthened during my time there. I became certified to run the Base Defense Operations Control, which is the security headquarters for the entire military base. Operating multi-line telephones and multiple computer programs at the same time was common for me during regular hours of operation. Confirming appointments on base, dispatching patrols to specific areas where they were needed, as well as controlling the alarm system for the entire base were things that were expected to be completed by me throughout every day.
Critical thinking skills and my ability to adapt to adverse situations are something that I have always prided myself on. This has served me well while working within my designated role during my internship and during my time as an armed security officer. A willingness to learn new skills is something I will always be open to doing. Even though I do not currently have a license to sell insurance, I am more than willing to make the effort and am confident that I will be able to obtain one.
My resume has been updated, and the latest version is attached. I trust that you will find that all of the qualities and skills required are well covered, but the opportunity for a person-to-person meeting would be highly desirable. My schedule is open for interviewing with you, but if you prefer to talk via telephone first, my cell phone is 517-***-****. Please call or email me at *******.*.********@*****.***.
Sincerely,
Matthew Weaver
