Chief Financial Officer – Cottage Pharmacy & Homecare Services ■ Hicksville, NY ■ Oct. 2014 – Present

Provide financial leadership for one of the largest independent pharmacies on Long Island. Track company’s cash position, revenues recognition and cash receipts, and perform month end closings. Supervise payment of AP and other expenses and payroll for 200+ employees entity-wide. Manage four direct reports.

Hired during challenging period involving tight cash flow issues and inadequate accounting infrastructure after it entered into diabetic and analgesic cream areas, both of which required major capital outlays.

Restructured entire accounting department to track profitability and cash flows and produce GAAP basis financial statements, which were then used to close additional financing.

Produced monthly financials by department (Prescriptions, Diabetics, Analgesic Creams, Health & Beauty Aids, Boutique, Vitamins, Surgical Supplies, and Homecare).

Quickly learned revenue cycle for prescriptions and made necessary adjustments to the tracking systems report of 10,000 prescriptions monthly to ensure prescription revenues were accurate on an accrual basis.

Spearheaded the closing of $2M financing through the SBA and provided recommendations that led to owner closing down unprofitable business lines.

Chief Financial Officer – U.S. Mortgage Corporation ■ Melville, NY ■ Sept. 2013 – Sept. 2014

Instrumental in strengthening financial management capabilities for an independent warehouse mortgage bank as it faced a downturn in business and tight cash flow due to increased interest rate. Manage four direct reports.

Managed cash flow and banking operations of three warehouse banks and 12 different active bank accounts.

Quickly acclimated to company’s systems (an older version of Peachtree accounting) that were all based on repetitive data entry and led initiatives to automate revenue, commission, and payroll cycles.

Migrated general ledger systems to QuickBooks with functionality to report profitability on job, salesperson, and division level bases. Automated importing of revenues from operating database (Encompass) into QuickBooks.

Provided monthly reporting company-wide (17 branches across more than six states). Established monthly reporting for the first time in company’s history.

Handled quarterly reporting to government agencies, financial institutions, and investors.

Contributed to achieving $1.5M annual savings by advising management to right-size company’s operational staff in response to decreased volume.

Replaced payroll processor and converted payroll from biweekly to semimonthly paradigm (Paychex – 125+ employees, $10M annual payroll). Trained employee on how to process payroll as well as keep track of commissions also imported from operational database.

Converted transaction entry from hybrid cash basis to full accrual basis and financial statements from a quasi-cash basis to full GAAP basis. Reviewed prior periods and proposed adjustments to comply with GAAP.

Interviewed and selected the company’s new external audit firm and managed all aspects of the audit.
