RESEARCH AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Mr. Thaker has extensive experience as a machinist, tool maker, and fabricator at Northwestern University Prosthetics-Orthotics Center (NUPOC). Prior to joining Northwestern University, Mr. Thaker had 20 years of industrial and commercial experience building machines, tools, fixtures, jigs, gauges, and prototypes. He is familiar with computerized numerical control (CNC); performs close tolerance machining and grinding; knows basic electronics; and can weld and solder.
He has transferred this expertise into machining, assembling, and repairing prosthetic and orthotic devices. At NUPOC’s research machine shop, he maintains tools and operates machines, including the Bridgeport EZPLUS CNC milling machine, Hardinge lathe with electronic readout for part dimensioning, drill press, Trautman router, band saw, and others.
An integral part of the NUPOC team, he works closely with research and education faculty, students and staff to construct, modify and repair prototypes. He builds research apparatus and the scientific instruments used at NUPOC for research and teaching. Mr. Thaker contributes to NUPOC research and development projects, including:
1.Further Development of an Adaptable Prosthetic Ankle Unit
2.Further Development and Evaluation of the Junior Shape & Roll Prosthetic Foot
3.Characterization of the Shock Absorption of the Able-bodied Locomotor System with Application to Amputee Gait
4.Development of an Equilibrium-Point Prosthetic Ankle Joint
5.Pilot Study: Junior Shape & Roll Prosthetic Foot for Children
