RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
Metallurgical Engineer Intern
Reliable Controls Corporation
Aug. 2015-present
Salt Lake City, Utah
Improved the performance of VRTZ crusher by modifying the motion mode of the hammers
Conducted drop weight tests and obtained the size distribution for three types of rocks
Built a new Plantsight (a cloud-based plant management application) project for an electric circuit board manufacture company and maintained the existing Plantsight projects of mining companies
Drew I/O and P&ID drafts using Auto CAD, and connected Auto CAD with MS Access and Excel Graduate Research Assistant, University of Utah Aug. 2012 - Present
Measured the thickness of intergranular β phase formed in Al 5xxx alloys using SEM, STEM and AFM
Wrote a MATLAB program to predict the life of Al 5xxx alloys exposed to natural environment in sea water for the Office of Naval Research (ONR, US Navy)
Simulated the precipitation of intragranular β phase in Al 5xxx alloys using Kinetic Monte Carlo method
Found GP zones and β phase (Al3Mg2) were able to form in the matrix of Al 5xxx alloys aged at low temperature for a long time using STEM EDS and 3D APT for the first time Principal Investigator of An Oak Ridge National Lab User Proposal Aug. 2014 – Aug. 2015
Wrote the proposal, prepared samples, and helped run the Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) experiments
Developed a core (pre-existing particle)-shell (precipitates) and intragranular precipitates scattering model to ideally fit the SANS experimental data
Obtained the size distribution and volume fraction of precipitates formed in Al 5xxx alloys aged at different temperatures with the help of scientists from ORNL R&D Team Member and Graduate Research Assistant Sep. 2010-May 2012 Wuhan Iron and Steel Co./Northeastern University E’zhou/Shenyang, China
Performed meshing and thermal-electro-magnetic analysis for slag pool of Electro-Slag Remelting(ESR) furnace using ANSYS APDL
Obtained the temperature and velocity field for the slag pool and the temperature field for the ESR ingot by solving coupled thermal-electro-magnetic-flow governing equations using ANSYS CFD and APDL Gaosong Yi P2
Run simulations using the same method (ANSYS CFD+APDL) to prove that widening electrodes is more effective in eliminating folds on the surface of ESR ingot than increasing the curvature of the mold
Conducted simulations (ANSYS CFD+APDL) of different slag pool depths, electrodes distances, and input voltages between electrodes to obtain the most optimal operation parameters for the ingot production process using bifilar mode ESR furnace
