Cisco Systems, San Jose, CA – Technical Leader of Engineering – 2012 – 2015

The Network is a living, breathing ecosystem, ripe to be mined, read and analyzed. In Cisco Services Technology Group, we analyze and mined large volumes of data and find trends, patterns to provides predictions for our customers.

Data as a Service (DaaS) - Launched DaaS offering thereby achieving agility, cost effectiveness and data quality benefits. I designed the system where CRM data was mashed up against streaming Network Profiler data in an HBase table. In one centralized space we ensured cleansing, enriching of data and offered it to different systems, applications or users, irrespective of their position in the organization. I organized the technology stack to leveraged Tomcat, MapR 4.x as the hadoop distribution of choice along with HBase 0.13; Spark 1.3.1, YARN/MapReduce, Sqoop 1.4.1 and Pentaho 5.3.

Smart Analytics Big Data Platform - Achieved $5M top line revenue by releasing the platform in Cisco Services Technology Group thereby enabling multiple Business Units to provide Analytics capability to end customers in Service Provides and Enterprise segment. I built the platform leveraging Big Data technology with MapR Hadoop, Spark, Hive, HBase, Sqoop and Pentaho on UCS Servers. Cisco Cloud expansion used in Europe to comply with EU Data restriction mandate.

Organizational Network Analysis (ONA) – The product helps enterprise customers to uncover hidden patterns, unknown correlations. For example one use case was to identify key contributors in the team who are the glue to outside groups. It also helps companies identify the cost savings and green house gas offset they produce by leverage video collaboration tools and avoiding travel. The collaboration (WebEx, Jabber, Telepresence, call data record and email) data was ingested via Sqoop and mashed up against organization hierarchy in HDFS via Hive. Pentaho was leverage to extract, prepare, blend data and visualize thereby gaining quick time to market with high flexibility for customer specific customization.

Cisco Sales Opportunity Management System - $40M new attach and re-attach opportunity was identified as an outcome of the project. As a technical consultant I was responsible for architecting and managing delivery of the project. There was an on site as well as an off shore development team that reported to me. The project leveraged Drool with Custom UDF in hive 0.11 on MapR 3.x. The project achieved a tremendous business value by reducing the time required by analyst to modify opportunity identification criteria and seeing the results with weekly frequency rather than quarterly.

Earned multiple “Connected Recognition Award” for “Making Innovation Happen”, “Technical Leadership” and “Win Together”.
