Projects Handled

DESIGN OF A COMMERCIAL 150 SEATER PASSENGER AIRCRAFT: As a part of Anna university syllabi, a project comprising of two semesters was undertaken with the aerodynamics part (Design of power plant & aerofoil, c.g calculation, weight distributions, Performance calculations and other aerodynamic aspects for a 150 seater a/c ) finishing in one sem and the structural part(Design of wing, fuselage section and landing gear) in the next sem. The project carried by a team of four.

“BOLTED JOINING AND REPAIR OF COMPOSITE STIFFNER”: Final year project .**

Description: In this project the damaged (of different levels) structures(wing section) joined by bolts is analyzed and compared with the undamaged structures load carrying capacity and effects to prove that, the particular joint has substituted for the strength losses due to damage . In these re-designing the joint by varying many parameters individually and test how these influence the failure and also checks the optimization of each component in the joints. For this, there are design curves drawn from which a designer can easily choose various details wanted for his/her joint like what type of bolt, diameter, thickness of structure,layup sequence of plies and other material properties. Tools used are Nastran and Patran for Design and Analysis. It was concluded that due to the repair strap the deformation of the damaged stringer web also reduces or remains almost same as the intact model. It prevents the total failure of the damaged model.

** The Final Project was published in the international conference “WORLD CONGRESS ON ENGINEERING 2011” organized by International Association of Engineers (IAENG) held on 6-8 July 2011, London UK.
