‘Dear Hiring Manager,
I am writing to express my interest in the Writer position with your company.
Writing is my passion and I am looking for a career where I can utilize that passion.
I have over six years of experience working for the Canada Revenue Agency. I started working for CRA through the Aboriginal Summer Student program and have had the opportunity to work in various program areas since that time. This job has given me the chance to connect with various Aboriginal communities through the Aboriginal Outreach Program. Through this job I was able to put my communication skills to work by creating an educational seminar to inform the public about current taxation issues and procedures. We then offered a seminar to Aboriginal business owners in their own community.
While studying English Literature and Indigenous Studies at Trent University, I also had the opportunity to finely hone my writing, editing, research, and communication skills. Whether it was through coursework or volunteer experience during my time at Trent, I was constantly developing my analytical and evaluative skills. I wrote articles for the school newspaper. I was responsible for editing the Indigenous Studies Undergraduate Journal, and assisted my peers through the Indigenous Studies peer-tutoring program. I was also responsible for spearheading a special project called the TALKS program which was developed as a program geared towards improving the relations between Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal members of the Trent community.
I have completed my Master of Distance Education degree through Athabasca University. Throughout this program I have had the chance to learn about various technologies that can improve how educators approach learning. I have extensive knowledge of various kinds of research techniques. I have written several research papers, and conducted research for and produced professional group presentations. I have experience writing training materials, course outlines, and curriculum content.
I have edited and written many articles for the web. I have taken on various copywriting freelance contracts, which has enabled me to work for specific corporations and brands to achieve their voice and tone as set out in defined corporate guidelines. I enjoy editing, and have extensive experience editing letters, presentations and other documents for Government use. I have written content articles, press releases, and proposals for online companies. I love creative writing, and enjoy writing poetry, short stories, and children’s books. I own and operate my own content writing business, which serves online clientele ranging from individual business owners to larger online companies or firms. For samples of my work and more about me, you may visit my websites www.brandnewcontent.ca and www.lindsaybrantbrumwell.ca.
I have attached my resume for your perusal. Please let me know if I can provide you with any additional information on my background and qualifications. I look forward to an opportunity to speak with you to further discuss my passion for communications/writing and to share with you my interest in working with your organization. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Lindsay Brumwell
