SunCentral was a start-up introducing core sunlighting to the commercial building market. Emerging from the Structured Surface Physics lab at the University of British Columbia, the company was funded by a $7M grant from Sustainable Development Technology Canada.
Technical lead of the SDTC grant.
Responsible for leading a seven member technical team of systems, mechanical, electronics, software and optical engineers.
Organized the team and a large number of external resources for the successful design and fabrication of a full system prototype of a wall-mounted solar tracking and lighting system.
Concept to install schedule was compressed to six months. The system was installed on Okanagan College’s new Center of Excellence building as part of the Living Building Challenge effort.
2007 – 2008 Angstrom Power Inc Vancouver, Canada
Director of Manufacturing & Commercialization
Angstrom Power was founded to develop and commercialize micro-structured fuel cells for the cellular phone market. The unique fuel cell architecture, combined with innovative concepts for hydrogen fuel storage enabled high energy density in small form factors suitable for portable devices like cell phones. Winner of 2008 Frost & Sullivan Innovation of the Year Award and 2008 Red Herring Canada Top 50. Angstrom Power was purchased by BIC in 2011 which closed the office in 2014.
Responsible for the planning and administration of the commercialization of the complete technology platform including the production of the micro-fuel cell, metal hydride hydrogen storage and balance of plant.

Responsible for all defense sector technical programs with individual budgets over $6M USD. Interacted with US Department of Defense (DOD), US Defense Logistics Agency

Led highly successful cross-functional teams composed of internal and external resources.
Initiated and led the DLA “Warstopper” and DOD “Lean Battery Initiative (LBI)” programs to strengthen the surge capacity of the lithium battery supply base. Included the simultaneous redesign of the LiSO2 BA5590A/U battery (10 D-Cell) and cell and battery production processes to enable appropriate automation and lean manufacturing practices.

Directed a 22 person, multi-level technical organization including all NPI, sustaining and manufacturing engineers and related support functions.
Primary technical representative for DOD (CECOM and DLA) for all new and released defense products including IPR meetings. Interacted with full time, on-site DOD QAR.
Shared responsibility for a single-year 10X production capacity expansion (20K cells per day) driven by US Army OIF demand, introduced five products for the defense market, and executed the product launch of an implantable medical product.
