Consultant, Subject Matter Expert – 2009 – present
Honeywell Technology Solutions Inc – “Subject Matter Expert” in a Consulting Capacity as the Specialist in Port and Container Terminal Systems. Currently I am supporting HTSI’s efforts for port projects in Doha, Qatar and Baku, Azerbaijan. Particular emphasis is placed on the Navis and Tideworks terminal Operating Systems. Previously, I developed a Plan for marketing HTSI products in countries of the developing world and led the development of proposals for Honeywell’s participation in US Trade and Development projects in Columbia, Morocco and Jordan. Global Defense Solutions – Maritime Systems Specialist, Consultant to the Port Authority of Aqaba, Jordan during the development of an Integrated Port Information System to bring together systems from Customs, Terminals, Consignees and Shippers. (Four month project)
Senior Vice President of Global IT, International Container Terminal Services, Inc (ICTSI), Manila, Philippines, 2006 to 2009 (www.ictsi.com)
I assumed this “Start Up” position with the initial tasks to define its role and responsibilities. This meant bringing the IT function into the 21st century. The scope of the position involved consulting with corporate and container terminal management as well as providing hands-on guidance for the management of the corporate and local IT functions on four continents.
As the Driving Force of projects to provide state-of-the-art Terminal Operating Systems (TOS) from Navis and Tideworks, I recommended and guided the implementation of the appropriate software to provide up-to-date, customer-friendly and efficient systems capable of handling current and future demands of a dynamic industry. These systems currently function on four continents and are valued in excess of $10,000,000.
Additionally, I guided the implementation of the Hyperion Financial Modeling/Reporting System for all business units to provide corporate-wide financial reporting in a timely, complete, uniform and accurate manner. This replaced five ungainly, independent systems and coordinated inputs from SAP and an engineering system. To facilitate this, I initiated the implementation of a corporate-wide Wide Area Network (WAN) spanning four continents to provide secure and reliable communications for the company’s financial and private data.
IT Manager, Dubai Ports World (DPW), Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 1990 to 2006 (www.dpworld.com)
I was responsible for the systems implementation as Dubai Ports International rapidly expanded its international operations with container terminals in Romania, Saudi Arabia, India (multiple sites) and Djibouti. Each site required automated systems including Terminal Operating Systems (TOS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) utilizing Maximo Engineering Maintenance for planning, inventory, purchasing and manpower reporting. Support systems included Financial Accounting for GL, A/P, A/R and F/A. Human Resources and Payroll were locally sourced and implemented to satisfy local needs. A significant achievement was site networking and communications facilities a well as staff recruitment and development. As the IT Manager-on-site I established the physical infrastructure (networking, computer hardware, computer spaces), selected and oversaw the implementation of the appropriate software packages, selected the local IT staff and interfaced these systems with the terminal operating staffs.
Initially, Dubai Ports Authority was a small container terminal anxious to expand and improve its customer service. To satisfy this need, I built and managed a staff of 20 professionals to implement IT systems at two container terminals in Jebel Ali and Port Rashid, Dubai, UAE. The systems implemented included the Navis Terminal Operating System (TOS), Maximo ERP Engineering System, Oracle Financial Accounting as well as “in-house” development.
Dubai Ports Authority needed to maintain superior customer service and the on-going operations at the two terminals. I managed the two data centers (40 kilometers apart) and networked them to provide guaranteed 24/7 up-time service for he two port complexes. I also guided the use of Oracle DBMS as a corporate standard and became the organization’s first Oracle DBA. The operating systems included VMS and UNIX. Jebel Ali Terminal grew from a small regional terminal to one of the largest in the world.
General Manager Middle East, Dun & Bradstreet Software, Middle East, United Kingdom, 1985 to 1990
I established the regional office and staff to support Dun & Bradstreet Software (McCormack & Dodge financial, payroll and human resources systems) foothold in the Middle East to enhance the company’s functions in Saudi Arabia, Arabian Gulf States, Egypt and Turkey. Reporting to the Managing Director of UK operations, I was responsible for all activities of marketing, sales, and support in the Middle East. I managed client programs and support to build the business in new regions which doubled the revenue and number of client sites installed in the territory, and was recognized as one of company’s outstanding managers for these contributions.
I performed consultancy service for the Saudi Arabian Petroleum Company which had selected Dun & Bradstreet financial products. I guided the project to convert a full range of financial software to Arabic language systems. The systems chosen and implemented greatly enhanced the internal processes of the organization, bringing them into the modern era of computing.
