Over two decades of experience in the development of signal processing algorithms and systems for cellular wireless communications covering base stations and terminals. Hands on experience in developing all aspects of modem design for GSM/EDGE, CDMA2000 and LTE systems from concept to algorithms, simulations, DSP code through lab tests and IOT certification.

Education

University of California, Santa Barbara - Ph.D, ECE (1979 – 1982) University of California, Santa Barbara - MSEE (1975 – 1977) Indian Institute of Technology, Madras - B.Tech, Electrical Engg. (1969 – 1974) Experience

Technology Director LTE - N vidia Corp. June 2011 – Present (4 years) Bristol, UK As technical director/ distinguished engineer at Nvidia I have been intimately involved in all aspects of LTE modem development from its inception.

I have developed algorithms for several LTE modules such as channel estimation, MIMO, CQI estimation, tracking loops, OTDOA, etc., written C/C++ simulation models, and developed DSP code in C and assembler for efficient implementation on Icera/Nvidia DXP cores. In order to deliver a competitive multi-RAT modem product, it is also imperative to develop a top notch 2G modem module. Developed algorithms for several GSM(2G) enhancements including EDGE, DARP, and VAMOS, developed simulation models, optimized performance, and generated DXP/C code for implementation on Icera/Nvidia soft modem architecture. Involved in all aspects of the modem development process from the top level to lab testing/ IOT, and benchmarks against our world class competitors!

I am also a mentor and guide for several algorithm/ DSP engineers and help set the agenda for research into next generation modem algorithms.

Technology Director – Icera Semiconductor July 2004 – June 2011 (7 years) Bristol, UK

• Developed and implemented the physical layer of LTE on Icera software radio platform

• Developed an LTE simulation platform in C++ to evaluate and refine modem algorithms

• Developed all GSM/EDGE physical layer algorithms, simulations, and implementation on Icera DSP processor. (Lab and field tests indicate class leading modem performance!) Senior Engineer - Andrew Corporation 2002 – 2004 (2 years) NJ, USA Develop and implement digital linearization algorithms (Digital pre-distortion/ DPD) for Wireless Base Station Amplifiers. This significantly improves amplifier power efficiency, and is the key to efficient wide band PA design.

My involvement spans the entire design process including algorithm development, C model simulations, Matlab/ Simulink modeling, and FPGA/ DSP fixed point implementation, through lab testing. The DPD is implemented on a hardware platform based on several FPGA/ DSP devices. Senior Manager – Broadcom 2000 – 2002 (2 years) NJ, USA Cellular wireless technology development for WCDMA, GSM and US TDMA (IS-135) standards. We initiated and setup a modem development group in NJ for Broadcom. Technology Manager/ DMTS - Bell Labs Lucent Technologies 1987 – 2000 (13 years) NJ, USA Developed the first US TDMA (IS-136) modem for AT&T/Lucent cellular base stations at Bell Labs in Whippany.

Designed and implemented the GSM equalizer for use in AT&T radio base stations (RBS) Promoted to Distinguished Member of Technical Staff (DMTS) at Bell Labs for contributions to wireless systems development.

Took the lead role in several aspects of wireless standards development for cdma2000. Developed a multi-carrier CDMA system for 3G and was instrumental in its adoption as part of the 3GPP2 specification for cdma2000.

Extensive research and development experience as a member of the forward looking lab for wireless communications at Bell Labs.

Member of the team that developed the first AT&T ISDN transceiver for digital subscriber loops. Patents - Over a dozen patents in the areas of mobile communications and signal processing.
