PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Manager, Analytical May 2013 - Current
Scientific Design Company, Inc. (SDCI, a SABIC-Clariant Partnership Company), Little Ferry, NJ
Lead the 11 member Analytical Group (3 subgroups of chemists and analysts) to ensure timely and quality support is provided to all corporate divisions and external clients.
In 2 years, substantially leveraged the quality, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and range/depth of analytical services in the core laboratory to the level which was never been achieved within the organization in the past 30 years.
Production: Managed QC and QA analyses on 7/24 basis - timely, accurately, and cost-effectively. In 5 months, established a record-ever 100% incident free analysis system and sustained then after. Initiated a Six Sigma campaign, achieved 30% cost saving and 25% turnaround time reduction for all QC analyses.
Production: Team with Quality and Operation for root cause analysis and improvements. Within 11 months, improved First Pass Quality rate from <80% to be >98%, historical high record.
Process: Lead support for the ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol technology in Engineering Department. Provide expertise for all the process (50+ streams from raw materials to process control and products, 20+ ASTM methods), and troubleshooting problems in plants together with Technical Service Department.
R&D: Support all analytical demands. Met the challenge of 80% workload increase and shortening of turnaround time by 40%, without headcount increase, through improvements on efficiency and lean campaigns.
Responsible for maintaining and satisfied laboratory quality/safety accreditations and training/certification programs, satisfied all internal/mother company/external audits and ISO audits. Email: *****.*****@*****.*** Mobile: 201-***-**** Xiong (Shawn) Liu, Ph.D. 2
Director January 2010 - October 2012
Mesolight LLC, Little Rock, AR
Led a group of 2 Ph.D. scientists and 2 analysts for R&D of 4 series of colloidal reagent products, and establishment of quality and analytical procedures for QC and QA tests.
Led the team for research proposals, project management, and reporting to national funding agencies of NSF/NIH/DoD/DoE. Key contributor to the funding of domestic $300k and international $1.5M funds.
Managed the facility with 20+ equipments, led the efforts for the issuing of 20+ analytical SOPs and manuals. Mentored and trained both internal & external users for equipments and procedures per technical/quality.
Initiated and established IP portfolio for core technologies and products of the organization.
Represented the company in showcases and conferences. Sr. Scientist January 2009 - December 2009
Mesolight LLC, Little Rock, AR
Designed protocols, analyzed and tested reagent products for quality product release, using techniques of electrophoresis, SEC, UV-Vis-NIR, fluorescence, dynamic light scattering, Microplate Reader, NMR, etc.
Investigated effects of sample matrix compositions on reagent performance (solubility, aggregation, bioactivity, fluorescence, stability, etc), and developed optimal matrix composition for reagent products. Graduate Research Assistant August 2005 - December 2008 NanoScience Technology Center, University of Central Florida, Orlando, FL
Invented an immunoassay technology (NANODLSAYTM) for fast, ultrasensitive, and sample-saving analysis of analytes. PCT patent issued and licensed out to startup company NanoDiscovery Inc.
