Information Consultant for Product Management May 2013 – January 2014 Midstream during the course of the Dialog migration, the migration effort was split into silos that more directly focused on particular areas of expertise. One of these areas involved the critical migration of the legacy Dialog alerting service, which was responsible for close to half of legacy revenue. Because of my deep expertise in this area, I was asked to transition into a role more directly in support of this effort.

Played a central role in analyzing key gaps in the customer experience anticipated on the new platform, designing mitigation strategies and working with the development team to implement these strategies.

ProQuest LLC, Morrisville, NC

Product Manager July 2008 – May 2013

I began to work for ProQuest subsequent to their acquisition of Dialog, LLC in early 2008. Because of my previous role in Dialog product development and my deep understanding of the legacy system, I began to work directly with ProQuest product management in their efforts to migrate the legacy Dialog service.

Served as Product Owner on an Agile scrum team focused on implementing search related business requirements across the new search service technology platform.

Based on extensive client interaction, did early conceptualization and storyboard designing around what various versions of the new technology platform might look like and have to offer.

Wrote all the initial business requirements for command line search on the new technology platform, including search requirements around searches using iterative sets and thesaurus searching, and worked with developers and UXD to guide their implementation.

Wrote all the initial business requirements for advanced post-processing output on the new technology platform, and worked with developers and UXD to guide their implementation.

Pressed for the development of a schema controlled export design for XML export on the new technology platform, and wrote the initial draft of the XSD schema for XML export of STM content on the new technology platform.

Participated in early design discussions and business requirements for a revamped patent search product on the new technology platform, and wrote the initial business requirements for several key features.

Worked with XML developers and content analysts on the early work to map legacy content sources to a new global content XML ingest schema for the new technology platform.

Worked directly with an important client account to migrate a custom legacy XML solution to an alternative solution on the new technology platform.

Continued to support other legacy solutions involving transformation of legacy XML into customized export formats for additional legacy clients.

Dialog LLC, Cary, NC

XML Product Developer, Custom Solutions February 2007 – July 2008 I transferred to this product development position from my previous role in customer service, although I had already been doing extensive XML development work prior to this transfer.

Worked with several key clients to provide customized output formats for a variety of their search work flows, based on writing XSLT transforms to manipulate output XML.

Wrote the JavaScript to power client interaction with several custom web applications.

Worked on the design and implementation of a contemplated competitive intelligence product offering using the Dialog search service.

Extensively involved in attempt to normalize Dialog XML to a consistent schema that would unite divergent XML across several hundred Dialog databases.

Investigated work flow solutions to assist intellectual property clients with new reporting requirements. Dialog LLC, Cary, NC

IP and Science Specialist, Knowledge Center September 1999 – February 2007 Although my role eventually evolved circa 2005 into providing focused support for Dialog XML product offerings, I initially came to Dialog to provide client support, both internal and external, for Dialog’s intellectual property and STM databases.

Worked directly with clients both over the phone and through email to provide focused search help using Dialog command syntax in IP and STM databases.

Took client reports of various search related technical issues, and escalated for appropriate resolution.

Participated in the design and implementation of new Dialog product platforms, including streamlined interfaces for the end user market.

After Dialog began offering XML output, embarked on a self-taught effort to understand XML based technology, and eventually wrote XSLT’s to transform that output into specialized Word and Excel report templates that were made available as part of the core Dialog product offering.

Began producing customized report templates based on transforming XML output for clients with special needs not supported by the generic report templates described above.

Became primary support contact within customer service with regard to XML related issues. Additional Professional Experience

Self Employed Attorney, Durham, NC August 1996 – September 1999 After graduating from law school and being admitted to the North Carolina Bar, I began working as an attorney for hire to various local attorneys and law firms, and was employed as a project attorney for Womble Carlyle directly before joining Dialog in September 1999.
