I was a senior mechanical engineer and sustaining engineer of printers from initial concept to product retirement. I created low cost designs through creative use of design techniques to minimize part count while meeting product specifications.

Designed several printer mechanisms including the Model A716 thermal printer (yielding revenue of over $3 million annually). Granted U.S. Patent # 6,155,731 for this design.

Provided project management through the creation of product quotations, specifications, scheduling, and cost analyses for inkjet, dot-matrix, and direct-thermal printers.

Determined the most efficient and cost-effective stepper motor and gear combination for the Model A716 and A226 printers.

Interfaced with development and production teams in sister plants, outside suppliers, and customers and ran cross-functional team meetings for printer Models A716, A226, A721 and A722.

As Principal ME and Engineering Manager, I designed inkjet and pen large-format plotters from initial concept to product retirement. I also supervised engineering and cross-functional development teams for one plotter program.

Managed cross-functional team of 3 mechanical, 1 electrical & 1 firmware engineers; 2 technicians; lead & coordinated manufacturing, marketing & quality efforts for one plotter development into production

Granted 4 U.S. patents for plotter designs (Patent #s 5,682,039; 5,404,425; 5,245,363; 5,177,497).

Prepared feasibility studies, conceptual design and competitive and cost analyses of the next generation inkjet plotter.

Created layout and detail design using CADAM and SDRC I-DEAS CAD/CAE packages.

Designed media feed and take-up mechanisms, injection molded plastic, die cast aluminum, and sheet metal structural parts.

Created FEA and conventional fatigue and stress analyses models for media axis components, and performed tolerance analyses.
