Employment history (Details)
AMEC (Consulting and Operation Support)
Kearl Oil Sands Project, Utility, Water, Chemicals and Turbine generator
Imperial Oil/Exxon Mobil, 2008 to present, Kearl Oil Sands Project
Process Water, Waste Water, Boilers, Natural Gas, a Steam Turbine, Froth and Extraction. Preparing PFD’s, P&ID’s, Process design basis and equipment selection, HAZOP’s and PSSR’s. Also: Technical Specialist, writing Process Description Manuals for various silos. Also prepared Flow assurance reports for Extraction and Froth Processes. Froth process follows Extraction (filtration & separation by density), a solvent is added to further purify the overflow bitumen and then is recovered downstream via a solvent recovery system(vapour recovered and cooled).
As the Natural Gas(NG) lead, sized a Glycol heater used to heat the high pressure NG to prevent Hydrate Formation/condensation, prepared PFD’s, P&ID’s, designed letdown stations, sized PSV’s, and obtained appropriate regulatory permits(NOx) for the heater. Reviewed HAZOPs and SILs and provided inputs (based on process design parameters and P&ID’s).
As the site support lead process engineer, work with Instrumentation & Control (I&C) team to implement design and safety parameters (pressure, temperature, level,……and alarms). Also assisted the operation team with trouble shooting and start up.
SNC Lavalin Inc.(Consulting and Operation Support)
Port Qasim Refinery(thirty months)
Offshore Services for PSI (Middle East) LLC, Karachi, Pakistan
Prepared PFD’s, P&ID’s, line list, basic equipment design and selection for process and utility systems with emphasis on increasing capacity for Port Qasim Refinery. A small suburb Ontario refinery was relocated to Pakistan, upgraded and modified, and now in operation.
UF6 Recovery Utility Systems, Utility Nuclear, Water and Waste Water (nine months)
Cameco, Port Hope, Ontario
Design, equipment selection, set up of “UF6 recovery” utility systems. Water, fire water, waste water, and highly contaminated water; provision and treatment. Also control systems, waste disposal, containment systems, optimization and resource conservation. Was also involved in a “HF” scrubber system and a Natural Gas system design and installation.
FAM Utility Project(six months)
Procter & Gamble, Belleville, Ontario
Senior team member completing P&G FAM Utility project for Procter & Gamble. Belleville, Ontario. Emphasis on: utilities system design and process safety studies. Developed PM programs and commissioning check lists used for all the utilities including, water, steam, air, waste water treatment and air pollution control systems.
Crompton: High temperature lubricants, Hydrocarbon refinery (nine years Operation)
Reviewed the operation and investigated the cause of dark product from a vacuum distillation column. Improved distributor design and sprayer heads’ reduced random packing for liquid and vapour distribution to wash beds.
Maximized process yield, reduced solvent, liquid and solid losses, increased overall systems efficiencies and reduced utilities consumed employing Six Sigma principals and QSP II software.
Completed a six sigma energy and utility project consisting of 34 small projects to reduce natural gas consumption, water, steam, hydro and nitrogen usage.
Installed a multimillion dollar refrigeration system which recovered solvent vapours, conducted troubleshooting, set up a preventive maintenance program and completed installation and troubleshooting of a high efficiency burner (20million BTU/hr).
Designed and implemented a Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) program, which included implementation of 24 projects consisting of:
oModifications to a number of batch operations to reduce hydrocarbon losses during transfer to and from various reactors
oDesign modifications to improve operation of a methanol column, reducing methanol losses to process sewers and surcharges using HYSIS 3.0 for process optimization
oNitrogen blanketing a number of reactors to reduce solvent losses and fire hazards
oCompleted system modifications to allow connection of 6 reactor vents to scrubbers and solvent recovery system to eliminate or minimize solvent losses, using nitrogen blankets and/or flame arrestors when possible
oSized (ASPEN Engineering Software) and installed a number of heat exchangers to enhance cooling to reduce vapour losses, using cooling tower water, glycol, nitrogen and CO2 as the medium
oDesigned and installed 3 semi-closed reactors via a system of fully automated controls, rotary valves, cyclones and slurry pots
oCompleted site wide C of A, P2 plans and dispersion models for two sites using Regulation 346 for air contaminants. All regulatory approvals obtained
oAll projects selected and completed using C&E matrices, FMEA charts, Mini tab programs using appropriate statistical tools and innovations
oCarried out PHA’s (Process Hazard Analysis, PHA5), completed MOC’s (Management Of Change), EHS (Environmental, Health and Safety) requirements, PSSR’s (Pre Start up Safety Review) and generated SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures)
oReviewed and improved the operation efficiency of a methanol column and reducing drain losses.
ENP Engineering Consultants (Three years, Consulting & Operation Support)
