Senior Manager-Forecasting, Planning & Analysis – R&D and SLS
Business partner for Chief Technology Officer, supporting our global Research & Development and Scientific Lab Services functions (approx. $164M operating expenses, 850 employees). Facilitated the process of separating group from two lines of businesses to ten distinct business units to better track business unit P&L’s. Created and streamlined monthly reports to track business unit expenses, and help drive cost center manager ownership of financials. Presented various “Finance for Non-Finance Managers” webinars to entire team to help them understand how to navigate key processes vital to the company’s operations (capital submissions, procurement process, etc) as well as key financial measurements of company value (OROC, EBITA, etc).
Tasked with providing Operating Management Team (OMT) with increased visibility into the company’s research and development spend by research project and the related ROI. Aim is to better prioritize spending towards higher growth potential. Created standard headcount and cost center reports that are being utilized by global finance to help ensure all are reporting the same information and formatting. Working with SAP and HFM knowledge experts to create standard, automated reports that will replace current manually created reports that are taking a lot of time and resources.

Business partner for EVP of Dealer Solution’s group. Entailed consolidating information from five business segment controllers. Included budget status, actual to budget performance, forward looking sales/revenue trends, team member trends, investment opportunities (P&L impact), top-down targets/initiatives, and key performance indicators. Focused on providing current and forward looking information to help drive actionable business decisions.
Supervised the companies’ Sales Compensation team, comprising of a Sr. Compensation Analyst and Manager. Responsibilities of the team included administering the salesforces’ pay plans and Club reporting, as well as providing analytical support to the executive sales management team and sales managers to help better manage their incentive compensation plans. Tasked with improving the team’s segregation of duties, customer service and process efficiencies in order to comply with SOX, provide exemplary service and shorten time to provide payroll with the companies’ incentive compensation payments.
Worked with the controllers to learn the financial modelling and business operations of each of the business segments so as to collaboratively come up with process and financial modelling improvements. In addition, looked for ways to standardize budget processes, and actual to budget reporting, with end result of increased process automation.
Worked with corporate FP&A team to improve the budget process. Focused on improving the two-way communication between executive management and the general managers/controllers so that each are aware of each other’s’ needs in the budget process. Provided controllers with improved budgeting system training to enable them to manage the budget on their own (less reliance on expert users in corporate FP&A), as well as standardized the process to include a formal budget kick-off where there were clear deadlines, instructions and targets provided to the budgeting team.

Only member of approximately forty person Finance & Accounting team asked to remain after takeover by Astellas Pharmaceuticals. Serve as OSI’s Finance & Accounting local point of contact for Oncology Research, General & Administrative, and Chemical Manufacturing and Control functions. Worked with key figures in Astellas’ Finance & P2P functions (centralized at our US headquarters in Illinois), to successfully integrate OSI to Astellas’ accounting and expense systems and processes.
Communicate business objectives and key deadlines, as set forth by our Japanese headquarters, for budget and five year plans to OSI’s senior leadership. Work with senior leadership to build current year budget and five year plans. Generate reports and charts that outline and summarize this information to be submitted to headquarters, focusing on identifying potential upsides and downsides and initiating potential cost savings. Contains operating expenses, headcount and capital.
Report actual versus budget (operating expense, headcount and capital) results to OSI’s departmental heads using SAP BPC 7.5, our budgeting and forecasting system. Also includes transactional data pulled from SAP GUI, our accounting system. Also report actual versus budget to Research, Planning and Administration at our Japanese headquarters. Field various ad hoc reporting and informational requests for financial and business information about OSI.
Provide account analysis, journal entries, and accruals for OSI’s prepaid expenses (for maintenance contracts and R&D collaborations) and long term assets to be submitted for J-Sox controls.
Worked with key members of Finance & P2P functions (centralized at our US headquarters in Illinois) to help convert OSI to Astellas accounting & expense systems.
Capital Finance Liaison for entire company. Manage, approve, and maintain all capital spending. Work with department managers to keep within their allocated capital budget.
Served as the system administrator for budgeting & reporting tool, Outlooksoft Everest for six years. Key member of project team that implemented software from development, to testing to roll-out. Trained over seventy users which included: one on one training, as well as leading presentations training groups of up to twenty in various worldwide offices (Oxford, Boulder and New York City). Built standard reports that aided users through monthly forecasting and full year budgeting process.
Divisional Financial Officer for Corporate Operations group.
